People keep on telling me I'm being a little mean on this site. Looking through my posts, perhaps they're right - I do act a little... nasty sometimes and focus on criticism more than compliments.

But is that a good thing? Does constructive criticism help people? Would it help people more if I sugar coated it a little more? You're the people to ask...

What do you all think?

I think you're sound but yeah you do come across badly on this site.

Mhmmm... I'd agree with that. Lol. The overwhelming amount of pms I've had from staff is worrying...

I have a thick skin for things so I don't get ruffled by "internet remarks" but I feel that while constructive criticism is always a good thing it can be overdone and mistook for being "a meany".

Obviously you cannot tell tone of voice when you are reading something on a forum and unless you know the person, it's not easy to know if they are trying to help or be critical.

I give constructive criticism but always give the pros, not just the cons so it does come off as me actually trying to help.

Come on, we all have a bad side. I'm sure i'm a meany to some too. You aren't that bad Donkey 😉

I'm new here. You don't sound mean to me. Although it is the internet and wording can be taken the wrong way even though you are not trying to be mean. I think its better to say what you think instead of lying, right? I'm always told I am mean, but I'm really not.

I get flamed on every forum lol... every post i make is bad, every new thread i make is bad.........its like they all hate me, lol...

But ill try to act better on this forum!XD

Maybe you post too much (talk too much)... like me!

Lol, donkey i remember you being mean to all the noobs on CPHQ(including me).
Well, i think you're a pretty cool guy. I have never seen you get unnecessarily mad at someone over here, so i think you're good. 😉

CPHQ was fun. It was like getting a infinite noob tube on MW2, and just killing absolutely everyone with it, with no retaliation. Well thanks for the feedback gents, I suppose I'll make an effort to be nicer

I don't find you mean at all. In fact, I think you're too soft.

As i said somewhere else recently, while you can't really convey emotions and sarcasm that well on the internet, the wording of your post comes into play and that is what people use to judge if a user is being nice or rude etc.

While I agree that you are not a bad person, i think the wording of your posts sometimes don't come across that well and therefore users think that you are being rude. When using the internet to talk to people you sometimes have to ensure that you make it clear if you are being rude or not. Saying "That is stupid" might come across as rude in terms of the internet but if you were speaking to the person face to face, you may well have laughed while saying it and it would have been clear that you said it it a jokey non rude way. Smilies can play a part in conveying your emotion and using  would show that it was a joke although even smilies sometimes get ignored by users and can still be confusing as to whether a user is actually joking or serious. By wording i mean don't say "I think that idea is pathetic and it will never work". Instead say "I don't think that idea is that good and it may not work." You are still getting your point across and voicing your opinion but it is in a nicer way and won't upset other people and you won't be pounced on by other members saying that you are being rude.

We all have moments were we get annoyed and just actually are rude to someone. If you do it often then it will go against you and will not make you popular. Once in a while is acceptable.

I completely agree. I think it's because I've been using the internet as a release lately, I've not been so relaxed which makes me sound a bit stern. I've been very busy in real life, and stressed due to silly gifted and talented schemes that aren't helping me.

It's good though, all that's over and the rest of the term is very relaxed. You should notice I'll be going back to my usual self 🙂

Being on the receiving end of a tongue lashing from you, I can say that you certainly weren't coming across wrong BUT and it's a big but.....you were the first to contact me to make your peace and for that I applaud you, it take a far bigger person to build bridges than it does to knock them down.......I think you are a teddy bear really 🙂

Ive never actually payed attention so I wouldn't be able to tell you if you are mean or not. If you feel that you are mean then lighten up, if you aren't mean then be the same.. The world will keep on spinnin'
