A while ago my friend told me about a service called Hacker News. It is not managed by me, or anyone I know. I am not promoting anything I will earn money from. This thread is for you, to help you gain traffic and backlinks for your website.

Hacker News, or HN, is a public service that allows users to submit and view URLs. You can create a title for it, and give the URL. That's it. You DO need an account with them, but it's completely free and the registration process is painless.

Once logged in, head to the submit page and enter your link's details. Within the hour, your content will most likely have between 20 and 50 new views, regardless of when you published the content. It's a great service.

To go viral with HN (thousands upon thousands of views instead of 20-50), you'll need:
  1. A catchy title
  2. Quick loading times
  3. High quality content
  4. Obscure or uncommon information

Even if your content does not go viral, you will still have those 20-50 views for each link you submit. Many users of HN are likely to share these links, meaning it's common to have your links spread around social networks and blogs quite quickly.

This method is very simple, but I use it for pretty much every article or piece of content that I publish online. I hope this helps you, and good luck!

I have put this in the SEO section because I believe it is not only a great way to gain traffic, but to gain powerful backlinks that can strengthen your website's SEO.

Hacker news is a great resource, I have been a member for years and visit daily.

HN is mainly for tech resources and only the best and most unique stuff gets thousands of views.

Yes, this might not be the best website for obscure or non tech content.

Wow. Thanks so much! I didn't know about this.
No problem Crazy. Hopefully you can gain some traffic from HN.

Thanks for mentioning this, I threw my link on the site for the hell of it. Now wait and see what it brings in.

Nice Demon, I hope it brings in some nice traffic for you! Remember, you'll get better results if you title your link a bit uniquely. Don't lie about what the article is about, but make sure it stands out on the page.

Sounds like Stumbleupon but you get a lot more views for free, which is pretty cool. I'm going to sign up and see if it helps my site at all. Thanks for sharing.

Make sure you come back here and let us all know what the results were!
I've gotten great results, but you may have a different experience. If so, I'd love to know.

It fluctuates pretty greatly so far. One article I share will attract a lot of traffic while others will get only a small amount. I would say it has some to do with the title but even more so the content of the post. Certain topics it seems (even tech related) the people using that site don't care about at all. Still, it draws enough for it to be worthwhile for me.

Hmm, how come it says that my account is pretty new and can't post? 🙁

You must be doing something wrong.
This has never happened to me.

Looks promising, going to try this out. Thanks for sharing it!

No problem 🙂
Make sure you come back and share your results! I hope this helps you.

Just to make people aware - this is a good tool for getting traffic but it isn't a good tool for getting people to sign up on things. The site is intended as a way to share news so it can really boost your traffic if you share a article via it. It won't probably help you out too much if you share a forum index or landing page though.

Quick update: Just had an article go viral on it and got over 1500 views from it.
