I tried this out awhile back but it didn't work out so well - something about school and it being important and such (just kidding 😛)

I'm sure many of you, if not all, have heard of social media sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Reddit, etc. Ones where users can vote up stories they like, and vote down stories they dislike.

What if there was one for forums? Not just forums, but at least one designed for forums. You can submit forums themselves, contests that you guys are having, interesting topics forum members have posted and such. Other people can then digg up your submissions and the best ones get put on the front page.

Several advantages:

1) Build backlinks

2) A possible alternative to joining promotion forum after promotion forum.

Disadvantages:

1) I would imagine you would need a large following to get your submissions noticed, but if people digg up other submissions that they like as well, this wouldn't be a problem.

What do you guys think? I have software available that would make this possible, but I don't want to start it if no one is gonna do it.

Thanks guys.

This is actually a very nice concept.
However it really needs to be well thoughtout before ever trying to launch.

Well Digg does work, social media marketing is the best thing for any kind of website. I still get traffic from Digg every now and again because of my article.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Interesting idea, to say the least. Have coders on standby to get to work on this?

I currently have already have software🙂 I don't necessarily need coders (yet). It can always change though. As of now though I'm happy with it.

I'm working on the site right now. Just getting some bugs worked out and such. I may invite some people to try it out soon.

Sounds like a great idea Ziveeman. I'd certainly be happy to add forum threads to it, if it helped to promote my forums.

It would be great if you could create some kind of forum modification, with something similar to a Digg button. Forum owners could install this mod on their forums and visitors could click it, if they liked a particular thread.

Thanks for the support Fergal.

That's a great idea too - I wish I was good at programming so I could do that! Unfortunately I don't think it's possible at this moment of time. I would have to support the mod with each software upgrade and such, and me being a college student and owning a forum, I don't know if I have the time.

Social Media is a good way. I'm currently doing that right now. But create an account that doesn't have your friends from school. Because if you promote websites and your friends see it, they might think you're a nerd.

If your really that scared to tell your mates what you do online, then why do you do it?

They don't know about it.
