I've seen on quite a few forums to where Announcements can not be responded to by anyone but Staff. I've heard a few people say that even though you can start a discussion topic, it's not the same. What do you think?

I think that's a fair idea. If it's important then only certain people should be able to respond. It would keep that area clean in my opinion.

Locking an announcement is really the best idea because if you don't then everyone on the forum will take time to respond to it. Now that can work in your favor though, if you really want feedback. It might be nice to know what others think of the new rule change or announcement so you can know whether or not you are going in the right direction. However, if what you are saying is non negotiable, best to lock it.

I think its best to allow replies to announcements. Gives the community members a chance to acknowledge the new happenings. It makes them feel like they are a part of whats going on, which they are. 🙂

Well, it is fair to let people discuss what they do/don't need regrading certain update, but it is up to admin to let other reply or not.

It's always depended on the kinds of announcements being posted, although generally I'll leave them open for replies and feedback as long as the comments remain appropriate, I see no problem leaving certain announcements open for replies.
