That won't stop a majority of spammers... Captcha is easily bypassed.

I disagree - http://ihost4you.net/forum/online.php - There's a lot of spammers in the who's online list, they may not have posted but they still are spammers.

I have always found that KeyCaptcha worked really good.

The pre-installed captcha is not good as many spammers can bypass that.

Try using this, it is one of the best. Make sure you install according to the instructions. http://mods.mybb.com/view/keycaptcha

The plugin can prevent spammers from registering and required to solve the captcha before they have a certain post counts.

Could always add a required hidden field on the registration page that asks to solve a math question.

The security questions plugin is the most working anti-spam plugin i have seen. Captcha helps to some extent but its not so good.

Stopforumspam has many false positives, especially if your visitor is from a country like India. I have a dynamic IP but i got stopped by Stop forum spam in many boards. I guess they blacklisted my IP range, which i would say is a bad idea.

Registration Security Question and Spamalyser. The only 2 that you would probably need.

Spamalyser is good as it check all posts made and uses a link weighting system to determine if the post is spam or not. The more links in the post, the higher the weight. There is an option in the ACP to add in bad words and words you deem to be ok, so the plugin doesn't get mixed up with a normal post and a spam one. It doesn't ban either, incase a normal member did trigger it.

It comes with a captcha/reCaptcha option and hidden captcha as default. But, I wouldn't recommend using these.
