Forum SEO is something very similar to normal SEO tasks. You will be requiring more visitors to promote your forum. Google Adwords and Facebook Ads are some good examples where you can promote your forum to gain more traffic. Some paid banner advertisements on popular forums also help to bring large traffic for your website.
As with any other website, the most efficient steps in search engine optimization for a forum consists of doing the things that any good forum administrator would do if he didn't have to worry about search engines. If you build your forum for your members, the chances are very good that the search engines will accommodate you.
Unlike a regular website though, a forum's content is coming primarily from people who join the forum as members. The negative side is that it may not be well organized as it is submitted and, as members join your forum as they have joined so many other forums, in order to promote a site, a product, or an issue, the content may not be original.
I don't check every forum post though Copyscape, but I do check on suspicious posts sometimes. Sometimes, I'll just delete content that has been duplicated in another forum, but more often I'll give the member a chance to reword it.
It's also important to ensure that the content of your forum is well organized by topic, rather than scattered all over the place. In part, you can do that through rules that sixty percent of your members will never read, but mostly you'll have to move things to appropriate categories, forums, and threads.
One large thread is better than four small ones on the same subject. For that reason, unlike many forum administrators, I encourage people to post in already established threads as long as they deal with the same topic, even if it is old. When the nature of the content is such that bumping an old topic wouldn't make sense, that topic can be locked.
These are things that will help with search engine optimization, but they will also make your forum more accessible to your members and other who visit your forum.

SEO was so easy when Hummingbird, Panda and Penguin were just animals and birds. Still SEO exist, but it should be understood new SEO is not easy for everyone. SEO technologies are same as before, but SEO guys should change their strategy. My successful strategy is to simply get few back links from single website and explore more and more websites to get backlinks. Google will count how much backlinks your website have from different domains not from different pages. Thanks
