Well, this may be hard to explain, but sometimes when make some of my trusted "e-friends" into moderators, they do good and are active for a while, and then all of a sudden they get an interest in having their own power. Making their own forum.

Eventually your moderators leave your site for their own forum, or they will spam out your forum by advertising their own forum telling your members to join their forum.

Anybody have any similar experiences?

Have not had it myself as described above. I have however had a lot of work stolen and ripped into another forum, by a so called "partner". It really comes back to choosing your moderators very wisely. I have 4 on my site, 2 girls, 2 guys ( 1 is me) and none of those have any inclination of starting their own site. I have had 1 member start his own place, but i have zero concerns over that, and he continues to be a member at my forum now.

If however he starts to copy and paste from my site, he will vanish very quickly. If they are spamming the hell out of your forum, put a restriction on them. But first thing i would be doing is removing their moderator extra's.

I had a good friend start her own forum after an incident where i wouldnt break the rules of the board for her. She was spamming over pm on my board, she managed to get a few ppl over, but not many. Happy to report her site is no longer active, and mines still kicking around. -razz-

That is the greatest reward of all hey mate. The person that ripped off my work now has a pathetic tiny site with a handful of non posting members. No thought process in any of the areas at all, and no work done to improve anything. The best bit was their first "cruise" they organized.......2 Cars turned up.

My first cruise had 16 cars, and 29 people out. -lol- -lol- -lol- -lol-

yeah it happens to everyone I think. If you are lucky you will get some really loyal moderators who love your forum and will not want to leave even if they do make their own forums..

Yep the same thing happened on one of my old boards....at first they beg you to make them a Moderator.... and when you do all of the sudden the go inactive or start a board themselves.

Yes... it does happen with everyone .... but i have a trusted friend of mine.. he has helped me with every forum i had made in the past.. and still he is. Nor does he have his own forum , or like to make one.....

And yeah i have noticed many of the site mods going away and starting their own forum's and stuff...

I don't think this is so much a problem if the forum they create is a different genre, for example if you own a Promotion Forum and one of your moderators leaves to start their own medicine forum.

Having said that, the real problem is when say you're the admin of a gaming forum and one of your moderators leaves to start another gaming forum. Sooner or later you'll find them robbing (or at least trying to) all of your topics, posts, members etc..

Mind you though, new forums rarely succeed these days which is quite unfortunate really.

I haven't had this happen (as I have only had one moderator), but this happened when I was a member of a forum. I thought it would be easy to make one and get a bunch of members, but it wasn't so easy.
