Just curious as to whether any of you are considering a software change and if so, from what software to which new one? 🙂

I would consider if I had the money. I would go from MyBb to Xenforo because there is a multi-participant PM system, you don't need to learn BBcode, the report system is easy to use. The list goes on and on, it is expensive but that why it is so good.

I went from MyBB to PhpBB on my forum and it was a very good decision, it is much better. I do like Xenforo and use that software now.

If you can afford it, I say go for it. I like both MyBB and XF, and still the only reason I wouldn't choose XF is money.

Think about more than initial costs though. There's also theme and plug in costs, because there will undoubtedly be things you want to buy beyond the license, plus the annual renewal fees for the license. And then there's a potential for larger hosting costs if the move brings more traffic to your forum and you need more space (though this may not be an issue depending on what host plan you have now).

If I ever did consider software changes at this time, I probably would go after one of the paid softwares, considering they generally have better support than most softwares that are updated.

Although I was a Xenforo fan, Phpbb 3.1 is quite good so I decided to stay with them.

I agree! I think some people tend to forget about additional costs that can be incurred when going with paid software, and end up draining their funds when a free forum software with a nice custom theme might look 100x better.

YES. I'm glad someone realizes this.

Being on IPB, vBulletin, Xenforo or any other premium software won't matter if you're using the default theme or a barely modified version of it or if you haven't taken the time to make the forum your own.

For the general forum hobbyist, a free forum software (self or free hosted, doesn't really matter) will be perfect. It's a lot less hassle, less expensive and you'll enjoy it much more.

Nope, IPB here and no reason to change for anything else. That'd require a lot of unnecessary work with everything, and most likely wouldn't bring any real benefits anyways, so current ways are just fine.

I've considered switching, but it would lead to complications, with one of them being inadequate plugins to replace our old ones.

I'd recommend making a backup of your targeted forum and restoring it in another directory on your server, and then testing out the forum software conversion.

A forum I co-admin is undergoing the change from IPB to Xenforo very soon due to the ability to use more features that will help improve the forum for the users.

Nope.
I have tried all forum software and MyBB is the best. I will always continue to use MyBB for any forum I ever open.

I'm not considering a software change currently. MyBB works great for my forum.

I think we're pretty content with Xenforo for the time being. It meets all of our needs and exceeds expectations in many areas.

I wish good luck to those who are planning a software change or currently going through one. 😉

No. I am happy with the software I am using now. If someone were to offer me something better that what I have now and for a reasonable price, then I might consider it. But until then, no.

I am not going to change the software because I like the current software. It would be a pain just to get everything transfered, even if you were able to transfer it.
