Anyone here promoted their forums via paid ads? Google Ads? Facebook Ads? Linked in?

I am trying to spread the word a little on my marketing forum and thought I'd ask here if anyone had any experience with paid promotion via the 'regular' venues: facebook, google, linkedin ads. Any experiences with this?

I used to try but it never really worked. I used to own a hosting website and I tried Facebook Ads and Google Ads and Google Ads gets expensive QUICK so I didn't let that go that fast and Facebook Ads just took forever at the time. Though you also have to note that this was early 2000s. It may be different now.

We used Google Ads and Bing Ads. In Bing, the cost per click is much higher.

I haven't used these option for forum option but i have tried Facebook Ads for my business. It didn't help much. It did help in increasing my reach but didn't convert to much leads.

I'm focusing on social media ads - specifically Facebook ads. Note: Google would only be of use driving people to an email newsletter - but I don't like email - but not denying it works.

If traffic isn't thrown into a list - I think it would be probably wasteful.
