I notice Avast 5 web shield and network shield tends to slow down my internet browsing speed when Avast's shields are turned ON.
But, when I disabled the shields, My web browsing download speeds is a lot faster.
I uninstalled Avast 5 and am using Microsoft Security Essentials and my web browsing speed is back to normal like when I used AVG or Avira Antivir until I uninstalled them because their user interface was not very user friendly.

I never really tried Avast 5, but did use Avast 4, and I really liked Avast 4. I use Microsoft Security Essentials too and haven't noticed any problems.

I read other forums. Some members who have slower computers which used Intel Celerons or AMD Semprons tend to also experience slower internet with Avast 5, but when they installed it on a faster computer, they don't experience slow downs in Avast. It seems Avasts has too many shields which may be the problem for slowness on slower computer.
I used Avast 4.8 and it seem to run faster then 5.
