Anyone prefer used cars?

New cars are very expensive, so I think that's why most people buy used cars. A car loses a lot of value just from driving it out of the parking lot for the first time.

some or most people don't have an option regards getting used cars since they can't afford new!

Well, it depends with me. If it is a brand that I trust to stay in good condition, then I would prefer to buy used generally. If I don't know how a particular brand works and how well it maintains, it may vary.

Our first 2 cars are used cars. The first one was 15 years old and quite dilapidated. There were times that the window wouldn't roll up or roll down so when it rains, we get wet Worse, there's a leak in the roof. The engine also has a lot of problems. Our second car was a Honda Civic which was 2 years old so it was like brand new. It gave us good service for 16 years. Now our present cars are both brand new although they are now 5 years old. There's really a big difference with the brand new which is very convenient and safe from breaking down without warning.

used cars are affordable and provide best mileage comparison to a new car, I have a used Honda Accord, I have been using for 2 years sofar working great no issue in engine and transmission and provide good mileage.

We've always bought new cars but now we're looking at a Certified Used car that has been checked thoroughly by the dealer and it meets certain standards. Some warranty is available on them as well and you get something a little nicer without having to pay full price.

Most people with a low income would prefer used cars I think. There are some good ones available. I myself am more of a used car kinda guy than any of those newsies

Only had used cars.. Never really had a new one. so i guess used.

I've had plenty. Get them checked out well before you buy of course, but a car is going to get miles, regardless of whether it's you or someone else who puts them on. 😛

I’ve never been able to talk myself into putting the money down to purchase a new car. I’m not someone who intends on getting a car loan unless absolutely necessary, so I typically have gone with a used car that I can buy with an immediate lump sum payment.

I have used many cars over the years both new and used. The most mileage i got is from hatchback Mazda, for some reasons it always worked for me.

I am prefer to own new car. Used cars can bring headache if you pick the wrong car, it will cost you more and bring you trouble when in the roads. Meanwhile if you have friend or trusted seller, used car can be a good option for first time owner.

I prefer new cars. You know the history of it this way. I'm not saying people/dealerships lie or withhold information. Actually, that is what I'm saying. Even if nothing is being purposefully withheld, you still contend with the possibility of hidden damages the previous owners/dealerships might not be aware of.

If you have the money to buy a new car then go forward but mostly you still can pick up a good secondhand car that has had a good looked after. Seen a 5 year old car that only has 20K miles on the click or less that's damn good

I'm fortunate to have my dad & uncle as self-taught mechanics so they always found us good deals on vehicles. None of us purchased a brand new car. I also grew up paying cash (exception of a mortgage) so never cared for the idea of getting a loan.

Can't really do a car loan on a new car, you just end up spending more vs going after a used car. I'm hoping to roll on in to a dealer ten years from now, slam down a blank check and walk away same day with a brand new car.

Most seem to prefer them, but only from a few years back.

You need to use your best judgment when you buy a used car. Buy from a dealership because you'll have more leverage. Do not buy from someone off of craig's list. Do not buy off of EBAY or buy from someone locally. Buy from a dealership. They service the cars that they sell because by law they have to or they can get in serious sh*t with the lemon laws.

You need to look at the mileage. You need to get a car that's no older than 4 years old. Any car that's over 12 years old, the parts are obsolete on it. So you'd just be buying someone else's problem. If you're fortunate, they might have something after market on it. If they don't, they have to look for parts from the local scrap yards and those parts aren't always reliable. You need to be sure before you sign any papers.

Primary reasons are is that you're warranty is "AS IS. NO WARRANTY" meaning that if your used vehicle; car, pick up, SUV screws up. Remember, You signed a paper agreeing to fix everything on that vehicle. You wavered the dealerships rights on having any further responsibility to fix that car out of their own pocket. You're assuming full financial responsibility of the car payments and the repairs, even if that means if the engine blows up. You get the honor of crapping out several more thousands of dollars out of savings or taking out another loan on a new engine, transmission, parts, and labor. They need to pay their mechanics and they don't work for free. Or if you're flat broke. You just bought yourself a new lawn ornament, with monthly payments.
