AP Exams

For all of you in high school on this forum, how many of you are taking AP exams? Which ones are you taking? Are you prepared? How did they go for you?

Next week, I will be taking 3: AP European History (bleh), AP Macroeconomics, and AP Microeconomics. I'm prepared for the latter two but not the first. I feel like on the Econs I'm looking in the 4-5 range while the history is maybe a 2.

I've already taken mine. I enrolled in three AP classes this year (psychology, calculus AB, and art history), but only took one of the tests. I ended up taking Art History because I felt it was my strongest class, and I think I did pretty okay. They say it's the hardest test; there are eight essays you have to do, and that's pretty tiring.

Hopefully I got a 3, but I'm thinking a 2 is more realistic.

I never took any true AP classes in high school. I took dual credit classes which gave me college credit as well as high school credit, but that was for a particular university in the area (which I then transferred to my current university that I'm attending). There was no AP or similar exam to get the credit though.

I took the psychology exam on Monday. It was hellacious, but at the same time, I think I did good.

AP classes (Advanced Placement) are classes you can take while in high school, in your senior or junior year (last two years) to get both high school and college/university (the two are interchangeable here) credit. In an AP class, you have to take an "AP Exam" at the end that you have to pass to get the college credit portion. It's a cumulative exam over the entire course, so it's kind of a big deal especially if you aren't a good test taker.

Even if you have an A in the class, you don't get credit for it (at the college level) if you don't pass the exam.

Yeah, in New Zealand we have a stupid NCEA system which teachers and students hate.

Even if you can't get out of college classes, it's a good idea to take them. More credits -> earlier registration date. And you'll do better in the college course (or be able to slack off more).

I never took advantage of this, but we had this kind of thing when I was in high school. While I don't remember the guidelines completely, I do remember they were somewhat strict. Especially on what credits could be transferred over and what couldn't. If I didn't have learning disabilities I would've taken one or two of those classes, but I had to have too much help as it was and taking AP classes for me would've only made the workload harder. I don't know if I'd do it this time around either or not.

I think the system in India is more simple. You take the final exams. If you get good marks, you move on to the course of your choice 😀

There are no AP exams, credits or anything of that sort. And, admission to all universities are based on an entrance exam!

It really is. And it is a 2 month wait at that, too! I wish it was only say, 4-6 weeks like the SAT's are (if that, once I got mine back in 2 weeks!)
