Do you listen to appeals from members who have received staff actions? Some sites allow for appeals so that they can hear from the other side and maybe reverse their decision on a warning or infraction.
I think it's imperative to allow appeals to staff actions. We are all fallible and if you refuse to listen to those not in your circle, you'll quickly find that you won't have anyone outside of your circle. This is what makes moderation (and management in general) a difficult and deeply subjective topic. You can do everything in your authority to make an objective system. However, people are subjective in nature. Should the human tendency of making errors be treated the same with every person? How do you go about moderating on a case by case basis?
Arch needs to share why he should be unbanned or maybe state why he was unfairly banned if he wants to be taken seriously for an appeal. Otherwise he's just making demands and bringing more certainty to staff that they did the right thing 😀
Well, with me it really depends on the situation and if I can tell that a user has legitimately changed from the staff action. For example, if a member was put into mod approval for generally unacceptable behavior, like trying to get constant negative reactions literally all the time, or spamming 1 or 2 word posts that do not contribute to the general and actual discussions, and has shown the ability to control oneself, I'd be inclined to look into the situation if the person appealed after the probation period.
