April fools and your forum

We inverted a lot of the graphics and stuff on our forum. Banner, sidebar images, avatars and sigs are all inverted. As well as usernames in the topic views. Also the cbox usernames have been inverted to enhance the confusion. It's simple but effective. We didn't have much time this year to do anything bigger.
Last year we had a disney theme, made a disney themed skin (with all the happy shiny graphics to go with it). And all staff and elite got disney character names and a fitting av/sig set. We acted as the disney character we portrayed. Also had some fun word filters added here and there. Was a lot of fun.
I was Scar from the Lion King, so I could finally be an ebil admin for once :lol:

Haha sounds good 🙂 i think next year im going to do something better than what i did, i had a few ideas like setting a dummy admincp for members and crazy fonts but i didnt have the time to implement them so i went with a fake hacking instead 🙂

We didn't do anything for April Fools. This was simply out of respect for our members. While some people can tolerate pranks and actually like them, there are just as many people who don't understand them and take it the wrong way (me for instance) so out of respect for all involved, we didn't do anything, and we probably never will either. April Fools was never really my favorite holiday. I like jokes, but I don't enjoy pranks, nor do I enjoy playing them on people.

I didn't do much since I don't have a huge audience yet, but I did change the forum logo to a lovely picture of Rebecca Black and played "Friday" (which required that I buy the song D: awful purchase) at the top of every hour on the radio station. 😛
I did not do anything. A few forums that I visit did though. The most notable for me, was that Richazey from phpBB Communities stated that they were changing to MyBB Communities. The reaction from some of the members was quite hilarious actually, it was like they didn't know that April Fools Day exists. 😛

Last year on one of my forums, I made my forum look like it was hacked, it had different pages that flipped, and at the end it had a zombie like face that popped out at you and said "GOTCHA, April Fools"

I never have done anything on my forums for April Fools but wanted to do something this year. We have a good morning/afternoon/evening thread which some of the members visit throughout the day so I thought it would be great to change some of the words in the word filter....
Change morning - evening. Afternoon - yesterday. Evening - Tomorrow.
It was hilarious. I got a pm early in the morning from a member after I changed the filter saying she was having trouble typing in morning. I said I would look into it but didn't give anything away...for the next eight hours members were posting in that topic and it was really funny to see what was being said and what they were saying in the shoutbox about it....eventually they rigged me and I owned up. They all were delighted with the fun though, it was a hit. 😀
They said they are going to get me back next year..... :rofl:

We made everything looking like it was hacked, it was fun 🙂 In the background it was a picture just saying random numbers scrolling by, and we took out the banner, looked wierd, got yelled at though

Did you get yelled at by your host or your members? If you got yelled at by the host, I sure wouldn't try anything like that again in a hurry, especially if you want to avoid a suspension or account termination.
