Some 5 years ago, our boss in the office said that arcades will lose business to the game gadgets not to mention mobile games. Last weekend, I chanced upon 2 arcades in the mall that were crowded. When I asked the attendant, he said that business is great during weekends. I wonder why people still play there when they have computer games and mobile apps.

I imagine arcades are still around somewhere, here in New York City, but I do know a lot of the smaller ones I used to go to as a teen are 100% gone. I think with online and console gaming being the thing to do now, the only surviving arcades left are the HUGE ones.

We have some gaming bars here in Melbourne which are simply cool places to hang out with friends. Plus I don't have 20-odd arcade machines in my house so getting that shot of nostalgia is a fun experience.

Surround sound can recreate an arcade experience at home - just like it can a movie theater experience. However, in the US, theaters are still big, but not arcades. Any reason why?
