With consoles like Xbox and PS5, do you think digital games are taking over?

Do you think physical copies will eventually be opted out?

Aren't they already?

I can't remember the last time that I got a game from in-store dicks Xd WIth new tech and a new game framework,.

I always download my games. It's just more convenient. I think some games you can only buy digital?

There is still some resistance, so they are not gone yet but it definitely isn't what it used to be. I live with another gamer so we like physical in order to share.

It feels like a losing battle so I have almost entirely stop buying physical unless I know for sure we will be sharing. What good is buying physical with more and more game having to download stuff as part of the setup before you can play them? Some of them even have day 1 critical patches or they are unusable. Once the console and servers are gone it'd be as useful as a frisbee but less fun. A lot of the physical owning pride, at least for me, is that I can just grab the game and play anytime I feel the craving. Nowadays if you have to replace your console if you're not careful you can lose a lot. Not just your saves.

I feel it is only a matter of time, since most people actually prefer downloading their games rather than buying a physical copy.

I think Page was right; digital games have already became a norm, much to my chagrin.

I'm old-fashioned in the sense that I think old physical games have a sense of collectability that digital games just don't have. You can't display digital games on your bookshelf. I guess you could create a Collector's Edition of the digital game containing only the box and Steam code, but it feels so phony.

Idk. I just think there's something cooler with physical game boxes, not to mention those tutorial booklets that don't ruin the immersion of the game with some in-game tutorial.

Once you go digital you give up the ability to own games at a point. But in the same way digital is as valuable as emulation, so I can see the need for physical, if online stores ever prevent ownership of games.

For sure digital copies are taking over right now. When you look at the records that we have, you will see that most gamers are now focusing on buying digital copies of games instead of the physical ones.
