Are forums dying or almost dead?

I lost interest in forums the last 7 years, only recently got back into it. I've got to say that I do miss the old forum days, back when they were fun.

Couldn't agree more :/

Started 4 years ago but had a break for a year so including the break it would of been 5 years.

Forums themselves won't die, however interest in running them will. I haven't run a forum in years, simply isn't fun like it used to be.

Austin01 you said it for me I don't know what it is but my body itself can never seem to have fun in running forums like I used to when I was 14 but guess I was a bit more nerdier then and whizzy with that type of stuff.

i'm going back to making you tube videos and letting the site grow as the you tube channel grows.

I think forums play a big part when it come to ICT troubleshooting or sharing problem & solutions. I would prefer forums over social media especially when it comes to searching.

Forums will never die out, I don't think, partially because if you look for how tos, you'd be directed to a forum, not a social media page. The "problem" is that forum owners only run forums as a hobby.

The beauty of forums is that it's one huuuuuge community in one place and that it's really easy to communicate, with all the quote and you could read all of the pages within minutes. Do the same with, say a Facebook page, and it'll be a complete mess.

Facebook, Twitter, and Google + has made life harder for forums, but its all part of marketing really. If you are successful in advertising and SEO, you will have a successful forum.

I think are got cut short back when social networks got popular but i don't think forums are getting any less activity again. What i find funny is i talk about forums with some people and they don't even know what one is -_-
I think just lack of knowledge of the existence and how to use forums is a big issue

That's true even when I first started 5 years ago they didn't know what one was and every time they could it a unique site :/

How is it unique there's loads of forums.

Forums aren't necessarily dying but they aren't as big as they used to be before social networking sites came along. If it wasn't for places like Facebook, Twitter, hell even MySpace, everyone (or most people) would still be using forums.
