It is a tough topic to discuss with your parents and your loved ones. So I decided to discuss it here. What are your takes on this?
IMHO I think it has a lot of advantages and disadvantages. On the advantage part it expands your imagination and helps you learn lessons you would never get to acquire in real world. One og the biggest disadvantages is wasting a lot of time on this.
What is IMHO dude? But generally, anything that's too much is bad. For that, I can say, skipping your lunch, not doing your homework because you have to finish your Xbox game is not healthy. There was a news in the past wherein a boy died because he did not eat nor sleep, all due to non-stop playing of an online game.
I'm a game developer and my whole life I've been around them. I used to play Mario Kart with my Mum and siblings so they've meant a lot to me. I think they're a great medium for artistic expression and they're this awesome offspring of mixing art and science together that we've never had before. And we're merely scratching the surface for what this medium can do.
But I also understand they can be designed to be addictive and - even worse - exploitative (look to the Free to Play market, Loot Boxes and a company called "Scientific Revenue"). I'm not sure what is the best way to regulate these sorts of things. The best I can do is try to avoid these practices in my own work.
Well, everyone needs a hobby, otherwise they'll get burnt out. Writing programs is a game of sorts here, as I have to constantly ponder over the possible solutions, the pros and cons, and the efficiency of method x.
I think gaming websites are on top of the list in terms of popularity. That means many are hooked into gaming. To be honest, I also had my share of playing but I wouldn't detail it here. I have nephews who are fond of games like DOTA and COC but I can't seen anything wrong with them, I mean they are normal for they can still do what they need to do. I guess the problem with gaming is the addiction. And with the mention of addiction, that's a disorder like being a chronic gambler, an alcoholic and drug addict. Anyway, playing during the spare time is okay but playing for more than that is not good anymore.
Myself, I can't get into them for more than an hour at a time. However, that wasn't always the case. In fact, when I was a kid I would be obsessed like most are.
Well according to this article I just read, Video games can grow or shrink part of your brain. Either way I like video games (my favorite genre, Rpg) so I will always play video games.
