Some critics might think they are too soft. However, supporters might emphasize that rehabilitation helps prisoners more than just locking them up in a place like most people see as jail or prison.

Well, myself, I see deterrent as a big thing. Do Norway's prisons with their lack of freedom, at the least - deter future crime?

I don't think it would work for everyone. I just read an article where one of Norway's prolific killers said the solitary confinement radicalised him even more. I can't imagine sitting alone with your thoughts for years on end. The attached article says that it literally drives some people insane. I suppose it would depend on how long the sentence was.

I think the type of prison cell will be determine by the level of crime of the offender. Some criminals are more hardened than other while some committed minor crimes. The level of their crimes should determine how comfortable their prison cells should be.
