Yes, I think Instagram, and Snapchat could be fads because a better photo sharing app will come out in the future, or people choose to spend their time using other more entertaining Apps like comic book readers, ebook reading, and watching free public domain or ad-supported video on their devices like PC, phones, laptops, and tablets.

There are also privacy concerns sharing private photos on Snapchat and Instagram which may cause more people to stop using them, and instead use encrypted e-mail, or websites to share private photos.

Photo-sharing is not a fad, the apps used are.

That's the funny thing. Kids think just because they use email instead of an app that the picture of themselves in little to no clothing is safe and between them only. Nothing, absolutely nothing on the internet is private. If someone knew about it, or was bored, and knew how to do it, they could get that picture or whatever else it is.

Personally, if kids of today are stupid enough to take provocative pictures of themselves to send to their "boyfriend/girlfriend", I hope the picture gets stolen. They need to learn, even if it's the hard way, you don't do crap like that, especially as a minor.

I agree photo sharing is not a fad because blogs, forums, and social networks will always have people sharing photos and images on them, but the Apps and certain websites like Instagram could become fads as most of the users moved onto a better app, or site. There is also a chance a few years from now most users who used Instagram find it embarrassing that they post low resolution photos with filters which discolored their photos, and they wish they never add filters to their photos back in the past, and choose a website which does not lower the resolution of pictures, and video to save storage space for Instagram.

To a degree, yes. The concept isn't, but the websites used for it are.

Along with all the other reasons to not use instagram:

Instagram Terms of Use said:
Instagram does not claim ownership of any Content that you post on or through the Service. Instead, you hereby grant to Instagram a non-exclusive, fully paid and royalty-free, transferable, sub-licensable, worldwide license to use the Content that you post on or through the Service, subject to the Service's Privacy Policy, available here http://instagram.com/legal/privacy/, including but not limited to sections 3 ("Sharing of Your Information"), 4 ("How We Store Your Information"), and 5 ("Your Choices About Your Information"). You can choose who can view your Content and activities, including your photos, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Flickr is great as you have full rights / control over your content and they give you 1TB of storage free.

I don't think Instagram is a fad mostly because it is being used all the time and also the growth of mobile development.

As you see, most people nowadays have smartphones so which means they will be on their phones more!

Instagram privacy policy about giving your photos' and videos' right away is sneaky. I think it may not be a good idea to host video and photos on Instagram because Instagram is not very profitable like Facebook who is Instagrms' owner. Instagram could end up becoming a stock photo website like Shutterstock, or putting deceptive ads to become more profitable by selling their users' photo and videos to other website to use as stock photos, and not sharing any of the revenue with members like legitimate stock photo sites.

TinyPic.com is another site which is good to use to store/host images since I can embed images on forums, and websites without linking back to Tinypic, or embeding those annoying frames which tell people the image is from Instagram, or Twitter.

I could be wrong, but I think this topic is mainly talking about apps as in phone specific apps, not sites like Tinypic or Imgur which are primarily used by computer users.

Yes, this topic is mostly about the apps, and not sites like Tinypic, and Imgur.

I was using Tinypic as an example for a better place to store pictures, and share them by embedding them on forums, and sites like blogs.

Social media in general is a fad. We started out with Myspace, moved to FaceBook, and now twitter is the big thing. Picture sharing apps are no different. Something will come along to replace Instagram eventually.
