Yes, they are. But they have to be. Pro sports leagues generate billions of dollars in revenue, and the players are the foundation for that, so they should get their fair share.
But when you look at it that people are getting paid a couple million dollars for playing a game, when there are people who struggle to make a living with hard jobs, it really sucks.
I agree with David, and I think they are getting paid appropriately based off of how much the league(s) make.
But what I hate is when their pay drops to only like a million per game, and then they complain and call it "slave wages". It's like, c'mone, I would KILL to make 1 million per day. Even if it means getting the crap kicked out of me.
I don't know much about this, yet I think it's appropriate to pay any amount of cash especially for what they do. 😉 Even according to how good they do.
Of course they pay WAY too much. But it's only because of the revenue gain. They have to be paid that much. If the sports franchise owners could pay less and possibly send to charity, it would be huge!
Excellent point. For example, I used to work for a major Canadian bank. While they were recording profits in the $100 Billion range, I got laid off which the bank referred to as downsizing, trimming the fat as it were. Now the owner's of these pro sport's teams, well some of them anyway, are making Million's of $'s off the back of the athlete. Since there is no game without the athlete, don't they deserve a fair share? The fact of the matter is that the owner's offer these contract's. Would you turn it down? Plus it's not like these athlete's have it easy. Yes their playing a game, a well paying game, but they have to have the talent first.
I don't know how much truth there is to this, but I heard that for every player that makes it to the NFL there are about 5,000 that try out and don't make it. Curious. Do you feel the same way about movie star's?
