A few moments ago I came across a clip of Michael Buble singing "Come Fly With Me" and I really enjoyed listening to it. But it got me thinking. He isn't actually doing much work, the band is the main focus for me. What do you think? Are singers over-rated?

Actually, before I turned 14, I had a good singing voice and I had earned my own money from 3 main roles in different pantomimes (Oliver Twist, The Sound of Music and Elf - all musicals) and minor ones in a few others before my voice broke and I lost my singing voice. I had never had a singing lesson in my life. Most singers haven't had to work for anything, they were born with their talent. Musicians have had to work extremely hard for years and years in order to be able to play an instrument and they rarely get credit for anything.death180 said:

I didn't pursue singing because I was drawn into the piano and once I had reached grade 2 on it when I was 11, I started playing the cornet, baritone and trumpet.

Focusing on the singer has alot to do with our Western culture. Singing and music is actually a team effort. I'm not really interested in singing with little to no music. But music without singing is a real interest too me.
I don't think singer's are overrated. How many strictly instrumental CD's are sold each year compared to other CD's? If the music is the main focus for you then that's great (I'm not being a smart a*s). We all have our preferences. 🙂

Singers are not overated, at all, I'd be offended if someone said that. My inspiration, my fuel, my will, to me music is everything!
