i am thinking of changing to a different forum software and come across this site and want to know if it is safe to use?

To answer more... they don't even have a working support forum. Decide what that means to you.

So just find a free web host and host your forum that way. You can use your own domain instead of a sub domain and you won't have to have ads on your forum.
