Are these rules too harsh?

I've written up some basic board rules for my forum but I need to know if they seem to harsh. http://webverts.co.cc/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=260

Of course I will not remove them if you don't like them but for a newbie member that just signed up and is reading the rules... Will this turn them away?

They seem fine, however the reply you made:

"Members that choose to argue with what is written above will be banned from this board. This is written by the board owner and he has the last say."

Not very friendly and shows that you are "power hungry", id suggest removing it.

You dont need to post consequences for breaking the rules.
A rules page should just be information, not threats.

On my forums, Ive always had a rules page simply with what is not allowed. When someone broke the rules, I would refer them to that page. If they continued after that then consequences may vary on a case by case basis.

If you want though, I usually have an extra note like this one as a failsafe. Use it if you'd like.

"While the above rules cover most situations, they cannot account for everything. The Administration has every right to punish any member for any reason that is deemed harmful to the board."

Usually something along those lines. I always write my rules from scratch on every board that I start, so that's not the exact wording.

Point is, is to get your rules out there covering most things without creating an intimidating feeling.

I'd try to word the rules so that they are a little more helpful and welcoming to members. For example the first line in your rules could be something like "Welcome to our community and thank you for taking the time to read our rules".

You might also state where members should post any questions they have, regarding the rules.
