When it comes to managing your forum and its members, what kind of manager are you?

Do you present yourself as an authoritative figure, ready to discipline at any moment if needed?

Are you instead laid back and more like a regular member than you are a manager?

Or maybe a little of both?

I think I'm about 90/10. 90% of the laid back type and 10% of an authority figure. I really only want to be authoritative with spammers or members who just won't be responsible.

What's your style?

First and foremost I try and leave my personal opinions at the forum door.

If I feel a member is straying too far from the middle ground I'll often play devil's advocate in order to try and restore some balance. I do consider myself fairly laid back but I'm never afraid to challenge racism, misogyny or bullying of any kind. I also get particularly annoyed when I see members assuming the ethnicity or sex/sexual orientation of another member.

I'm sure I still make mistakes and I'm always willing to learn but I think I've been around enough to consider my style to be 'fair'. At least I hope so 🙂

I totally agree with this!
I'm laid back as well but this sort of thing has to be stopped in its tracks.

Another thing that sets me off is people who are continuously negative. I usually get rid of them quick. Negative people create negative atmospheres.

I expect members to not call names and that's the biggest rule violation on Christianity Haven. So on that, I'm very strict but other things I tend to be laid back on.

I don't tolerate bashing & degrading of members & I will take action against those people but otherwise I'm laid back.

I am an authoritative figure. I do not allow members who recycle posts from other forums or post low value content.

Laid back person but with rules in place, so if they think that members can do this and that as I'm a chilled out dude they are in the wrong.

As I run a general chat forum, I prefer to be laid back. In fact I think it's been a while since we've really had to come down hard on anybody

Generally laid back. I'll only put my foot down when a situation calls for it but fortunately I haven't encountered that in a long time now.

I'm generally a laid back person, but if members start getting out of hand and are harassing other members then I will start issuing warnings and if the problem continues I will ban. I thankfully never had to do this in a long time with any of my recent forums, I only had to ban the occasional spam bot or spammers in general.

at times it's good to be little lazy
