Yes, I am concerned that the SOPA act passes since it means a lot of fan sites which are not owned by the entertainment industry may be blocked, taken down, or censored for having links to copyrighted material like a video of a dog with Lady Gaga background music and photos.

This bill is alarmingly likely to pass in both chambers of Congress. It has broad support from both Republicans and Democrats. However, there are also prominent members of Congress such as Nancy Pelosi and Ron Paul who oppose this bill. With all the corporate money in campaigns, though, I don't foresee the opposition stopping the bill. Even if Obama vetoes the bill, there's a good chance it will be overridden.

This bill, though, is just more proof that the United States is now governed by a fascist regime. We aren't any better than China and Iran.

On a brighter note, though, many conservatives and liberals now finally agree on something!

This is grim news... I hope Canada does not follows the US example on what the Internet should be like...

I wonder if this means the US can block a site if it is using a Logo which is copyrighted like the Halo, Call of Duty, Microsoft and other popular logos, or using forum software like phpBB3, MyBB, etc if a company like Adobe, etc says phpBB3 is infringing on their IP copyright for some unreasonable reason.

The US court system does not seem very savvy when it comes to fair use, public domain, open source, GPL, Creative Commons, and freeware licenses.

Plus, could this mean we can't talk about our favorite singers and actors like Tom Cruise, Bob Barker, etc freely online since some actors and singers or the company they work for trademark their names, images, and likenesses.

Indeed, I heard that Canada is not doing this, but if the US follows, the Canadian version of the RIAA and MPAA might hire lobbyists to lobby to have a similar SOPA law passed in Canada since they succeeded in getting SOPA passed in the US.

I read if a Canadian website and domain is hosted in the US. SOPA can still shut it down, or tell Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, Advertisers like Adsense, and Adbrite which are US based to ban them for violating SOPA.

Most of the website I visit are in the US like Twitter, YouTube, forums, blogs, etc, so this bill will negatively affect my web browsing experience if it passes since it will make some websites ban user generated content since the owners are afraid the picture, video, text, or other content type might violate SOPA causing their website to be blocked, seized, or lost of income from US Advertisers, and money transfer services like Paypal, Visa, and Master Card like Wikileaks lost of income from Paypal, Visa, and Mastercard.

I honestly don't think this bill will pass. And if Obama vetoes it, they have to listen since he's in charge of the country. And if they go through with it anyway. That's like saying we will do what we will do. With or without your consent.

Plus, they have to listen to what the People say. After all, they work for us. Not the other way around. If it passed, it would tremendously screw over a lot of websites.

Nope Canada is not doing this, well not at least from what I heard a couple years ago. They said that they have more important things to do then block those stuff. But if US does it then most likely Canada will follow. 🙁
Plus, Harper has a majority government now, and he's basically trying to turn Canada into the USA.

I think there going a little over-board by not allowing you to take anything from anyone for any reasons no matter what.
I do agree that they should take down the pirate and adult sites but going to jail for using a song is to much.

I'm very concerned about the bill. I don't really care anymore though since I don't use YouTube, but what is likely is that if the bill passes all video game websites and forums will be shut down, especially games that launch in your browser such as Battlefield Heroes, I don't really think this bill will pass with all the people sticking up to the Congress. It should only be for content such as music and movies and not video games if people want this law to pass. The person who wanted this law to go by crossed the line when he/she declared so much as video games would be copyright. You shouldn't even be jailed for that, but only if it is copyright of music/movies or anything of that.

How would this effect browser games like BF?
EA made those for us to play we are not violating the law.

I think if Rick Perry, Mick Romney, or Michelle Bachman who are all Republican gets elected in 2012 as the President of the United States, and the SOPA hearings are still going on. Which ever Republican leader will be less likely to veto SOPA compared to Obama and Ron Paul who dissaprove of SOPA.

I think it won't just screw over websites. It would make the user experience of the internet more restrictive, and could mean the end of user generated content like LOL cats which is using a song which sound like the "Inspector Gadget Theme song" from the cartoon.

Well they will have to get rid of the forums or the website because the website/forum owners or anyone can upload videos to either one and there is nothing we can do about it and if they delete the forum they will have to delete the website itself because the forum is a part of the website. End of story.

... ... ... ... ...

The forum could be removed easily and just don't allow them to upload videos/show them 😛

Using different domain names and hosts for the website, and forum may help out as well unless SOPA, MPAA and RIAA goes after the owners, members, and all his accounts to protect their IP and copyrights.

Really? what is wrong with adult sites? Oh wait no let's take it a step further. I propose we have all our women's vaginas sewn shut at child birth to ensure they're virgins when we buy them and have them were veils. It has worked great for some countries so why don't we do it.

You kidding? Take a look at copyright law in China & Iran. Their governments at least leave that sheet alone for the most part, they work for themselves so they don't have to shill themselves out to the entertainment industry like our government does. I don't know which is worse really.

Bittorrent might be a good place to look for Porn and harder to find files if SOPA ever passes and removes porn, copyrighted music, and films.

I wonder if SOPA could affect Bittorrent, P2P, and programs which do not need a dedicated web server, IP, and is not very well-known for file sharing compared to internet sites like YouTube, Rapidshare, MediaFire, DropBox, YouSendit, MegaUpload, PhotoBucket, Imageshack, TinyPic which most people are used to which is domain name, server, and web browser based for viewing.

My first thought was "Are you fu- serious?" Stupid US Government -.-

That probably means I should be in jail by now.

The internet needs some sort of rules obviously, however it seems when someone thinks up a bill, it is too extreme. They aren't thinking in the right mind set.

True. Someone could go to jail for uploading a Minecraft Let's Play or something as an equal amount of time for killing somebody. Still, very far away from the maximum sentence but you shouldn't even be jailed for it in the first place. The US Congress are probably just overreacting to copyright infringement and then force it down on every other persons' time.
