Are you more of an administrator or a moderator?

I don't pride myself and instead just think of myself as just "one of the members" instead.

I'm kind of funny.... I make a wonderful member, moderator, super moderator, and even administrator on other communities, but I am more of an Super Administrator / Web Master on my own community.

It's always a good idea to have active and friendly staff members (kind of fills in the gap)

I'm better suited as a moderator.

On the one or two forums that I've been admin on I've played the part that you might call the "involved admin," focusing more on community matters rather than behind-the-scenes stuff, which basically meant I ended up being the head moderator, but still gave input and worked on admin-like things.

I never like to hide behind the scenes; I enjoy being part of the community and don't mind dealing with members. Plus, like The Visitors said, it's essential to have an active, involved staff.

That discribes me as well, actually. I don't like hiding behind the ACP doing behind the scenes work. I like getting involved and actually participating in discussions with the members, asking for input, putting in my own two cents, that kind of thing.

HCF's involvement and his changing role is so interesting to see described! That's a great post your moderator made, HCF.

Something all admins seem to have in common is that over time their workload grows. i've been battling this lately, no matter how many staff we promote it just never seems like enough. It is a little better lately as we catch up with the site's growth but we got to keep on top of it.

One way to combat the "everywhere yet nowhere admin" problem is greet your new members when they post intros and have at least a couple places on the forum you bookmark and post to at least once a day or so.
