Are you secure?

@froggyboy604 "Only Security Essentials has the active shield enabled." is not true. The free version of Avira also scans for viruses in real time, when files are written and read from the disk or pendrives.

I meant on "my computer". I only have Security Essentials and Malwarebytes paid version have real-time shields, the rest of the security programs I used are just scanners, or blockers like firewalls.

I know that other free antiviruses like Avira has active shields.

I have AVG 2011 free edition and Malewarebytes (free edition).

...There's no possible way a program that is running uses 0MB's of RAM. All you need is a Anti-Virus, Firewall, Secunia and Malware Bytes.

Having all that is really not good for your computer and especially that hard drive encryption if you have it on the whole hard drive it puts read and write A LOT slower than without it, and if you corrupt windows and don't have the key, your screwed BIG time if you have anything important on it.

(Those browsers and addons are good though)

I run Linux so I'm secure.

But on Windows my friend Ian (who is a professional IT guy) got to talk to the guy who made Microsoft Security Essentials. He said the Microsoft loathed and hated anti-virus, so they created that. But the thing is that since they have to have competition, it can't be on every windows machine.
He said that he hasn't had ANY complaints after installing security essentials on his clients' computers.

I use linux.

No, seriously. I use linux almost 99% of the time and scan all out-going email attachments with clamAV (and scan my /home once a month or so). I also have a restrictive IPTables based firewall.

I too CONCUR that you have far to much, infact you could get away with one Anit Virus, and Malware Bytes and be just fine. Spy Bot last I heard does not work well with Win 7. Spy Bot for XP was great.

If you have to buy more RAM to feed your security then you are overkilling for sure. Just my perspective but if it makes you feel better, that is what counts in the end.

hello friends,
