Arrogant Staff

Have you ever been on a forum where the staff act really arrogant and self-righteous all the time, they seem to know everything about everything & threaten you when you disagree or question what they say?

Does that turn you off of a forum? Make you want to be less active or not return?
If you had staff like this, what would you do?

I recently got banned from a forum with admins like this. It is a real turn off for me. If the staff are not willing to listen to members who may or may not know more about a subject then them then the forum will be doomed to failure.

Yes. Fortunately, I have a solution that works 90% of the time to combat these types of situations.

It's called leaving the forum.

That depends are we talking about Staff who simply follow the rules,or the ones with a huge attitude problem?

Reminds me of a certain board I got banned on just because I didn't agree with the Global Moderator.

I was once on a forum a few years back with a moderator that was soo sure of himself and hated anyone to prove him wrong. He started calling me names and whatnot. Then before any other staff came on, he edited our whole convo to make me look like the abusive one then locked the topic so I could not edit anything.
Needless to say I never went back there.

No, I've never been on a forum like that. Every forum I've ever been to has had nice staff and well managed boards. XD

lol. Just kidding! A LOT of forums have this problem, in fact so many do that they have given forums in general a bad reputation for this.

Power corrupts, and people who don't watch their step can become little monsters on their own forums. If you realise you're on a site like that, just quit, because trust me it NEVER gets better from there. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches and frustration.

I was also vicimized some around 2/3 months ago even i dont know whats the reason of my banning 😀 ...neither i poke them for that...it was a celebrity forum and its admin is memeber here too... 🙂 ,I couldnot contact you if you see this post please inform me why i was banned 🙂 ,sorry if I has done any mistake but band isnot solution unless a user repeats mistakes....

note it : celebrity forum,thats why i rarely visit celebrity forum till now.. 😀

So far no I haven't, but I've heard many stories where people have been banned and ridiculed on the entire forum because of an altercation between an administrator, or just because they disagree with something. It's just people abusing their powers.

I have at times.. most of them way back in the day before I had even run a forum, but sometimes when I am on post exchanges, it can happen when you have forums being run by kids who think that just because they are the admin that they have control over you, and the older admins who think the same and think that just because they are older than you, that they know more than you do.

I typically don't care to argue with either of these people, but at the same time, I make a little note to never exchange with them again. Usually when I am on a post exchange, I am not invested in the community enough to care about how they run things. However, that is not to say that I won't stand up for myself if I feel that I am being targeted for whatever reason.

This happened to me on one of the very first forums where I participated. I was harassed by one of the admins through PM, mostly, and another admin basically messaged me to apologize, but hinted they couldn't do anything about her. The admin who owned the site was mostly absent, and I suspect the admin who did the harassing was related to her in some way. The forum still exists and is run by the admin who did the harassing, and everyone else has pretty much left.

Since then, I've seen it happen to a lot of people more than it's happened to me, and I tend to say something and leave too if things aren't fixed. There have been a few times where I've participated in suggestion threads to fix a particular problem, and the staff insisted their way was better even though most of the site disagreed, and they lost their membership and closed shortly thereafter.

A lot of times what happens is, people who run forums get an ego boost by flaming, waving the ban hammer, and issuing infractions. What they need to realize, is yes it's a forum, and yes you have to discipline and hand out bans every now and again, but when it gets to the point taht you're just doing it for the heck of it and to boost your own self confidence, well then we have a problem.

So did I, maybe it was the same site, don't know. Thing is the site I'm talking about has Administrators who are in their twenties, yet so immature. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I can be a little heavy-handed and issue a warning where it wasn't necessarily needed.

Sometimes when a lot of crap happens in a short amount of time, it gets to me (as does everyone), and then you kind of have no tolerance for anymore crap. 😛 But to be like it 24/7 and literally "patrol" your forum like you can ban everyone and it still be the best forum ever in your eyes... Dumb.

LOL! I actually was a member of one forum with arrogant staff a few years ago.
It was funny because there were two admins, one was very kind and always tried to make us feel welcome and the other liked to give this idea of power and conservative views. He would debate using personal insults and stuff, eventually we learn to just play along and not taking what he said seriously as to answer back, and he was pretty much the one dealing with the ugly stuff by having this 'I'm intimidating' aura, it was hilarious how much the other admin contrasted him.

I've been on a site like that, I left pretty damn fast. Honestly it's not worth staying. And in my honest opinion the site won't be successful if they are arrogant.
