Hi, erich.

Just wanted to take a few moments to give you a little feedback. First, your logo text has to go both in the header and the footer. What I mean is that it looks horrible in both places. It doesn't match the overall theme and in both cases the colors class with the background colors behind them.

The logo text needs to change--drastically--so that people can read it. One of my biggest pet peeves when I review a site is when I can't read a logo. Logos are the first thing people notice when they view a site. So keeping a good logo is good practice.

I also want to say that I am not a fan of the font face for titles to articles on your site. It seems real out of place with the given theme.

I like the forum and how simple it is, but three forums seem like too little. That said, I believe your primary focus is the site itself and the articles. So, if that is the case, maybe only add about two more forums.

Anyway, good luck.

Hi Teg, thanks for the valuable feedback. Our logo has always been a point of contention. I had it designed years ago (2013) and it seems that most people are not a fan of it. I think the biggest complaint were the colors. With that in mind, what kind of colors would you suggest to make the viewing of it a little easier?

The forums are smaller but I've implemented a category/prefix system to keep things a little more organized. The worst thing I feel at this point I could do is have tons of forums with little to no content inside. This was a trade off.

Font face can be easily changed. If you personally have a recommendation I would be happy to make the change so that it is easier on people's eyes to read.

Thanks again for the valuable insight and feedback.

Rather than change the color of the font, maybe change the background color behind the logo. Work with colors that go well together. At the moment, I don't have any direct suggestions as I'd have to grab the logo, open photoshop, and test background colors. Which, I don't have time for... Sorry.

Advanced Review of Art of War Gaming

First Impressions: (4 out of 10)
To be completely honest with you, I wasn't very impressed when I opened the page. I don't like the logo that much and I didn't really like the red/orange on the theme. The only thing that I really like so far is how easy it is to find things on the website.

number%20of%20posts.png
Number of Posts & Members: (2 out of 10)
Personally, I think you should have WAY more members and posts than you have now. You opened in 2013, it's 2016 now and you still only have 30 members, most of which aren't active, and 79 topics and 309 posts. That is not good at all for a site that's been open as long as this one has been. I also noticed that the off-topic section has more posts than the on-topic section. You should really try to get the forums that are actually based off the niche to a higher thread count. When I see the off-topic sections having more posts, I usually think that no one really cares about the niche. It's not good for members/guests to think that.

activity.png
Activity Level: (4 out of 10)
The activity level of the site doesn't look that good to me. On the members list, as I was saying above, most of the members aren't active. I'm sure there are a couple of things you can do to get more active members. Maybe try to run a contest? If you don't do this already, send out mass PMs once a month or every two months about new things or the most popular topics of that month. Small things like that will help a lot with getting the activity up as well.

site%20structure.png
Site Structure: (20 out of 20)
I like the site structure. Everything seems to be pretty organized, and it isn't hard to find anything. I didn't have trouble finding the forums, and it's easy to find the important things such as the "Contact Us" page. I really don't have anything else to say in this section so we are moving on to the next.

design%20quality.png
Design Quality: (13 out of 20)
I am really not fond of the overall design of the site. As I was saying above, I don't like the red/orange at the top of the theme where the logo is and as Teg said in her comment, the logo shouldn't be at the top and bottom of the page. I really see no need for that. Yes, it is easy to navigate through, but the look needs to be appealing as well.

originality%2016x16.png
Originality: (7 out of 15)
In all honesty, I don't think the site is very original. I have seen A LOT of gaming forums out there. It's really hard to make yourself different from the rest, too. I see the same things on yours as all of the others. Is there anything that you can think of that you could do to make it different? If you think of things, I suggest making a list, and then talking them out with your staff members. Pick one or two that you all like the most and set a poll and have the members vote on what they'd like to see. I personally love it when administrators let the members chose what they want because they are the ones using it the most.

spelling%20grammar%20professionalism.png
Spelling, Grammar & Professionalism: (10 out of 15)
From what I can tell, you don't have any grammar issues on your site. I did notice one thing, though. The forum descriptions aren't very long. Have you thought about making them any longer? Maybe something along the lines of "In this section you will find all of Art of War Gaming Site's News, updates, and feedback." That will make it a little more appealing. It might not matter to some people, I just think it looks a lot better.

Thing you liked best about forum: What I liked best about the forum was how easy it was to navigate through things.
Thing you liked least about forum: The thing I liked least about the forum was the red/orange colors on the theme. I am not a fan of it.

Overall Mark: (60 out of 100)
I really hope you are going to take some of my ideas into consideration. I wish you lots of luck in the future! 🙂

Thanks for the valuable feedback. I'm in the process of getting a logo redesign and will continue to work on getting more activity.

I actually don't have any "staff" , it's basically just me doing everything. I'll try to work on that as well.

Just a few thoughts of mine on your site.

  • The first thing that stands out at me is the banner/logo. It is very hard to see with the black and the maroon contrasting pretty poorly. I would recommend re-coloring the logo as I do like the font you have chosen.
  • I really like your homepage. There isn't a lot going on and it's not overbearing. Nice work. 🙂
  • Not sure if your forum is supposed to only have three board or not, but is it? I think you could expand a little bit into the gaming sector. Add at least two categories, one for announcements/intros/feedback and the other for general gaming/console talk/reviews/etc.
  • I guess I'm just confused between the forum and community links at the top. Both bring me to two completely different places. Not sure what is going on and could lead to some future confusion to potential members.

Hi @Kino,

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm working on having a new logo designed. You can see some of them below.

concept1.jpg

The second concept is the one we like best. We told the designer we wanted a logo that has a "vintage" look , but with a modern design to it. So the grunge/worn look sort of fits. The logo image is being redone as we felt it was too heavily leaning towards airplanes.

The forums we decided to keep small starting out. We utilize a prefix system inside the forums to keep it organized. It is a custom modification to our site.

So instead of having a lot of different forums with little to no content, we thought it would be better to show fewer forums with more topics and replies. We will expand the forums as we grow.

I can see how the "community" link could be confusing. It was designed to be a link to the site wide activity page that is a central hub of everything public between members of the site. We could do some think-tank and come up with something different so it won't be as confusing.

Really appreciate you insightful feedback and it has actually drawn my attention to some new things that I hadn't noticed.

I really like the first logo.

Thanks for the feedback. The designer is working on changing the actual image. Hopefully it will be a nice new brand for the site.

We have completed some of the suggested items. We have done a complete re-brand of the logo as well as our website.

On the website, we have changed the layout as well as color scheme to match our new logo.

With our forums, we have added a little better description to each forum area, as well as added members currently active, members active in past 24 hours, and forum stats.

Looking forward to some more feedback as we make our transition.

It's looking much more impressive. Great work. 🙂

Thanks Kino! Really appreciate that. I've still got a few cosmetic issues going on, but I think we have done a good job finding them and fixing them. I appreciate the feedback here at forumpromotion. Sometimes it just takes more than one set of eyes to fix a website. Really do appreciate the thoughtful feedback and opinions.

Honestly I thought the logo looked pretty nice.

Thanks for the feedback. I did enjoy the old logo, but the color scheme with the lettering was a big point of criticism on the site.
