I like the idea of "ask anything", so I thought it's a good thing to allow members here to ask me stuff. You can ask me personal stuff, it's OK with me, you can also ask me about forum management, web design, SEO, and online marketing (as I have about 20+ years of experience with them).
Phew, good question. I joined 10 years ago. Most likely because I was heavy into forum administration, had 10 forums of my own (or more, lost count). Was on TAZ already, adminfusion (for the oldies like me), anotheradminforum etc. And mainly anything with webmaster in the title 😀
After a while life happened, as I like to say, and I moved more into Wordpress work, web design, SEO, had a kid, and immigrated. So I needed to close down forums, sell and just mind other priorities. Now I opened one that's supposed to stay for a long time, as it's going to support my main business. So, I'm back 😀
Back in the day I used to run some pretty decent ones. Wtricks.com, which I sold to a client of mine, womenonlyforums.com, which again I sold. Used to have a lot of them, did crazy stuff (merging phpBBs, creating designs for them, migrating from phpBB to VB, VB to Xenforo etc.). I remember I even wrote a virtual book about forum management which I need to find in my archives and maybe give for free to the members here.
Had a forum posting "agency" 10 years ago (topadmin.net), similar to upwork, but, of course, very small scale.
As soon as I had my daughter, I had to limit my working hours a lot, so had to choose between freelancing and running my forums. So this is when I sold many of them or just let them expire.
I usually read what I'd like to, but, since you gave me this opportunity, here's a book I heard about, but never read it: Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear. I'll start reading it today.
Right now we're saving money for kiddo's tennis classes. Tennis is extremely expensive and she's apparently a little prodigy, so we're doing all we can to support her.
It has to be NJ, although I lived in NY for 4 years in total. I still love the City, but, since moving in a forest area in NJ, I kinda like the peace and quiet more now.
