Ask Me Any SEO Question!

Thank you. I've already posted 3 articles on Squidoo from Boxing day onwards but all I did was copy each article from my news and reviews section of the forum and pasted it into Squidoo. Would I get a penalty for duplicate content or can I get away with this?

I'll do the guest posting for a couple of sites too.

Yes, Google will see that as duplicate content. I also believe that is against the rules on Squidoo as well. I would take them down immediately, and then write original content for those posts.

What is a good way to get more visitors onto my site through search engines?

For me to explain the process of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to you, I would basically be writing a book. Instead, I will simply point you to a place that taught me a lot when I first started getting serious about ranking websites high on Google.

http://www.seomoz.org

They have a great blog and user-created blog that is filled with tips.

Would you have any ideas on how to increase the size of http://www.webmasterconvo.com's community and make it more active?

Well in your case, I wouldn't even focus on SEO yet. Webmaster Forum is an extremely hard phrase to rank high for, as there is a lot of competition. That being said, there are plenty of things that you can do to help grow your community.

I would start with making the number of forums/categories smaller. This will give your forum the illusion of being larger than it is. This will cause more people to join.

Push for as much discussion as you can on your forum, even if this means you going through and making as many topics as possible. This will ensure that those that are on the forum stay active.

Then I would go to as many other webmaster forums as possible that allow a link back in the signature area. Post around those forums and eventually people will start to come over to your forum.

Those are just some thoughts off the top of my head, best of luck mate!

John,

what would you advice if I want to start a blog dedicated to a name of actress with exact mach domain?

The seo would be easy or do I have to make extra effort?

Can you please provide ideas for content too?

As far as your situation goes, I am pretty sure you would be breaching trademark or something by using someone's name in an exact match domain. I think that is what you should be worried about.

-- Fri Feb 15, 2013 12:11 pm --

What SEO services would you recommend?

What type of backlinks do you think it most effective?

Ok John thanks take your time and thanks in advance.

Okay, for your forums I would suggest finding some keywords that you want to rank for. Probably tech forum and sports forum for your two forums. Put them in the title tags for your page, and have them appear on your forum a few times. Also, when you get backlinks, have those words as the anchor text the majority of the time.

You can also try and add some quality articles to your tech forum. You would be surprised how many times people will find those articles on the search engines. Plus, it will really give the community some quality content, which is always a bonus. Start with that, and then the social community will build itself eventually when you get traffic coming in.

Obviously earned backlinks from highly reputable domains are the best, but those are the hardest links to get. I would never recommend paying for an SEO service, but you can pay for SEO tools that make the process easier. Like http://www.seomoz.org, which allows you to spy on your competitors in the search engines, and see where they got their backlinks. Things like that I would definitely recommend as a way to make the process quicker.

I found a product number mixed of alpha and numeric on Amazon, it has around 4,000 exact match searches.

Will tiered linkbuilding survive through 2013?

Personally I have never used this method, but I know what it is. It's the idea of having links to your other links. No I don't think it will last very long, and the risk behind it in the eyes of Google is not worth the reward. Long term there is no way I would ever advise anyone to use this method.

You can still rank the term pretty well without the .com exact domain name. I personally find them cheesy and unproductive when the exact keyword is in the domain. Google will find out that you are trying too hard eventually too. On-page could rank it if the keyword has low competition. But I would be it doesn't.

Unfortunately I don't have the time to do personal evaluations anymore. But you should definitely go to seomoz.org and learn about how you can optimize your on-page stuff and build quality links to your site.

What is the best way to earn from Adsense?

I don't really see this as an SEO question, but in my experience you can earn more when you place ads in different locations on your website. I would try moving the ads around and testing them for a week in each location. Then see which locations perform best. You can also look up keywords to see which ones pay more and which ones pay less.

Like I stated previously, I don't do evaluations. I just answer questions regarding SEO. I don't have the time to audit people's sites. But to answer your second question, I would start with looking at your competitors that rank higher than you on Google. What are they doing differently that makes them rank higher? Then maybe reach out to some other tech enthusiasts and get them to become active readers of your blog. You can also start social groups or events to drive in even more traffic. Then just make sure you are optimized SEO wise and you are good to go.

are you intersted in doing some seo for my site for FP$

Nope, sorry I don't do SEO work anymore. Just here to answer questions. Thanks for the offer though.

Do articles written on a forum as a thread rank equal to an article written on a blog? I have a forum dedicated to skin and I have a section where I write articles and I was wondering if I can get these articles to rank high. I do not want to create a blog because I want this to be a big part of the forum where people can discuss the guides and articles easily and stuff like that.
