Ask me anything (zappaDPJ)

What makes you continue participating in forums after all this time?
Good question. I'm largely done with the technical aspects for running forums but I still maintain an appetite for the social side. The dynamics within individual communities fascinate me. I also run forums that provide a service for commercial organizations which requires a steady hand at the tiller so to speak, something I hope I'm able to provide.

I spend most of my day in my recording studio, often sitting in front of a computer screen, so that makes it easy to spend time on forums.

Interesting answer! What do you think of social media compared to forums?

Interesting answer! What do you think of social media compared to forums?
I feel quite strongly that forums provide something that other forms of social media can't touch. In very general terms forums compare to libraries while other forms of social media are more comparable to daily news outlets.

Unfortunately I think forums have failed to keep up with and take advantage of modern technology, particularly smart phones and that has to some extent reduced their popularity. On the positive side forums have extended their reach into other areas, providing peer to peer support within the commercial world. That is definitely an expanding area.

I'm reasonably confident forums will endure in the long term but the days of the hobby/general chat forum are probably already gone.

What was the best year for forums?
For me personally it was 2002/2003 when I owned multiple forums with a large number of active members.

what does the world mean to you now
Sadly right now, something that's heading towards a major reset.

Which planet would you like to live on?
Any other planet but this one. Ideally I'd like there to be oxygen... and water, and of course guitars.

Sounds fun!

What's your favorite forum software?
SMF and Khoros. SMF because it's free to use, fast, secure and easy to mod. Khoros because it provides the ultimate platform for businesses to communicate with their customers.

I also have good memories of vBulletin 3.
