Ask me anything (zappaDPJ)

If smellovision was suddenly a thing, what's the first thing you'd do?

If you could taste any song which would you choose and what flavor notes would you expect?

That's actually a symptom of a rather bizarre condition called Synesthesia.

I would have chosen 'Orange Crush' by REM until I listened properly to the words and realized it was a song about the chemical defoliant, Agent Orange 😱

Instead I'll go for 'Whiskey in the Jar' a traditional Irish song that I hope would have the flavour or a Bushmills 16 Year Old Single Malt Whiskey.

The lyric I heard that made me ponder this question was Shania Twain's "Man, I feel like a woman" (not the title, but the lyric). What an awesome lyric. How clever.

What other great single-line (or short like not more than a few lines) lyrics come to mind that you think are the greatest ever written?

I've always thought 'Us and Them' from Pink Floyd's 'The Dark Side of the Moon' album contains some pretty powerful lyrics.

"Forward!" he cried from the rear

The general sat and the lines on the map

He's clearly got a natural affinity for the guitar and to reach that standard at 11 years of age is impressive but far from unique. I disagree with Cowell, Olly doesn't have a unique sound although that may develop later. What he has is a good guitar tone and excellent technical skills, especially for his age.

If you could bring back one musician from the dead who would it be?
That's an interesting question because so many great musicians died when they were at the height of their career. Whether dead or alive, quitting while you are ahead is usually the right decision!

Jimi Hendrix would probably be at the top of my list because although he had a massive impact on the world, his musical output while alive was very brief, limited to just three albums.

It would have been really interesting to see how his song writing and unique guitar style developed had he lived through the 70s and 80s.
