At what age did the internet make an impact on your life?

I think I was age 13 when I started using forums. The first forum I recall joining was a Yu-Gi-Oh TCG message board on the vBulletin software. I originally used message boards as a means of trading Yu-Gi-Oh cards, but later on, I discovered InvisionFree and slowly started getting into the webmaster and coding scene and here I am 20 years later still on message boards, where I even have my message board dedicated to coding and forum resources.

I mainly speak of message boards because that's how the internet has primarily affected my life. I've primarily used the internet for message boards.

I would have been in my early thirties when I f got my first dial up connection which I think dates back to the early 90's.

My husband and his dad were into computers and they introduced me to my first one. It was down in the basement in a closet...well, I guess it was a tiny room but to me it was just a closet. That's how I also got introduced to the internet, through my husband. We bought our first computer when we got married 34 years ago and it cost about $2,200 I believe? My monitor was the big expense because I wanted a flat screen to do graphics. I loved going on IRC and chatting with people.

When I was 18 the internet made a impact on my life. I finally had a computer that allowed me to go online more consistent than I could previously. I had already been introduced to the world of forums in late 2006 when I was able to connect my old Windows 98 computer to the internet for a few months. Once I was able to join more forums it eventually lead me down the path to creating my own. Heck I even got into Sonic modding which introduced me to my interest in wanting to program and now I'm wanting to start taking classes for Cybersecurity!

At the age of 23 I am addicted to internet. My age is 43 now. In my initial days I tried to make money from ptc sites, later shifted to crypto world where I made some money.

As a kid most of the time I end up spending time playing games more so than being online, buying games on disks 🙂 with Windows XP and ended up going online at school, we did not have an internet connection when I was a kid.

But when I get near to my high school years and into collage that's when I needed it the most. 2009 🙂 and forward

I was in my late teens when the internet had a huge impact on my life. My best friend at the time stubbled upon a website her older sister used to go on (an all girls website about makeup, beauty etc.) and so I decided to join the forum as it looked really interesting. It wasn't soon after I was hooked on that forum. At the time I didn't know there were many forums or that forums were really a thing but after years of going on the all girls forum they shut down so that's when I explored the world of forums. It was AMAZING haha and now after over 10 years I am still here!

Around 2005-2006 for me. I was using the internet at the library regularly because my mom would go to do stuff on the computer, and then I'd just chill and play games or browse the internet. Eventually discovered forums, and it just blossomed from there as I made friends and discovered worlds that I probably never would've considered in life had it not been for those days. We eventually got a laptop for at home, so that made accessing the internet far easier (when someone else wasn't using the phone because dial-up).

I remember my parents having a company that did construction. They had an office with a few computers where I'd play some games and browse the internet at the age of 10. So that's 23 years ago. That pretty much introduced me to computers and the internet, so I guess that's where it began for me.

I was 10. 10 years old my dad purchased a "state of the art" computer (it wasn't, but there were a lot of companies selling these "amazing" computers to people who didn't know better at the time) and I was the main one in the family getting use out of it. I was obsessed, learning everything I could about computers, the internet, basic web development in those days, of course I had a cringe webpage up and running in no time flat! Then I learned about forums and I was done, life would never be the same.

Probably a teenage era. Back then I started using forums quite a lot and meeting new people. Good old times. 🙁

I don't think we had internet at our house until I was in Jr. High and even then it was dial up.

I was 20ish when I discovered the internet and it really knocked me over. I LOVED IT and still do. Started working on forums, websites, now I switched more towards SEO, but still love to develop stuff.

At what age did the internet make an impact on your life?

I like this thread. I would say the internet impacted my life around twelve years old. I started playing an Isometric MMORPG around that age. Someone in the community had created an emulator for the game at the time as well. So, I started learning how to code so that I could add my own features to the emulator for a private server. From there, I started learning more programming languages (VB.NET, C#, C++, Java, Python, etc.). Over the years I have expanded my knowledge into web development as well. I started using forums around that time, and I got more into website entrepreneurship and all that fun stuff. I always say if it wasn't for that game, I would have never found my passion for programming & web development.
