Well, I was just talking to Co-Owner at a forum that I Administrate at (she's higher ranked than me), who was saying something along the lines of me acting like a leader, almost like owner of the site.

I may go into more details about that later if people want, but if not, let's discuss times when you may have had a staff member who went 'mad with power', or even if it happened to you. Also, at what point can you actually say to your staff member(s), 'You're mad with power'?

You can say it when they ban a person for posting in the introduction section saying "Hello"

well never happened to any of my staff but my forum is new. BUT I had a clan for a game and my co-manager did become greedy with credit for the clan's creation
(it was made and thought if entirely by me he just followed my guidelines for management and pitched ideas), thats about it really

Oh man, I remember one time when I was on advanced hosting, and I had one co-administrator go crazy with updates and not telling me about them. For example, he'd change our ranks to make them something more professional, he wouldn't tell us what he was doing in the staff room, he would just automatically make an announcement saying, "oh yeah, all members have new ranks now," or, "Okay, we have added such-and-such mod" and I'm like, "uh, next time you want to add a feature, consult me first as it is my forum!" I'm a little more relaxed about that now, as running a forum is team effort, so that was kind of a bad example.

I've got LOTS of experience dealing with this crap. But I can say it all goes back to this:

When they start doing things because they want to, that are not in the site's best interest.

Examples....oh where do I start? I'll go way back to my days at the UPN {United Pokemon Network} to the admin there, what a jackass...He liked to occasionally wipe the boards because he felt like it, or he'd warn someone because they didn't agree with him, oh and yeah he was the only one on the whole forum allowed to have a pic in his signature. And it was a bigass pic. But this was small stuff compared to this monster of an admin I had at one point, on a different site also several years ago. This admin when she took power completely changed the RPG, which had been doing well up till then. She made a whole bunch of new rules, some of which even the other staff members didn't understand, including myself. People would ask how that worked and we'd have to say I don't know, ask {the owner}, she'd explain and they'd be Huh? Also stripped half my board powers without even telling me. I asked why later and she said "You don't need them." And suddenly requiring us to get every single plotline pre-approved by her. She outlawed half my characters because she thought I had too many of one species. Out they went, and out I went, but not after some immense board infighting, really ugly soap opera I could probably write a book about one day. It got worse after I left. At one point she actually hacked my boards, outside the forum she owned. {I got them back okay but I've never been the same, honestly.} When the new board I was on with some friends started doing better than hers {because the original one was now dying} she started board bashing on her forum's website. I'll bet you're thinking this was some bratty 14 year old right?

28 years old at the time. No lie.

Plenty more infighting followed at that board because she had begun openly bashing me on the forum, towards the end it was only about 4 or 5 people left even posting and the original members were all gone except the owner and her husband. They finally closed the game a few months after that.

I believe I've told this tale on this board before, but hey, always bears another retread lest history repeat itself.

Actually, that's a great point. I'll keep that in mind. 😉
