Thanks for posting. One of our reviewers will tag your request and complete it soon. 🙂

It seems a bit odd to me that you're using a seasonal default theme at the moment. I don't think you were using one over Christmas (unless I didn't
t notice) and it seems to me that the time to put up a winter theme is the time everyone else does (Christmas), as not to confuse people.

Aside from that minor quibble, this is a very good site! I love ZetaBoards. 🙂 Good luck!

It's awesome to see a ZetaBoards forum grow to be so large in such a short period of time. 🙂

Your themes are really good, as you've got a good assortment of colors going that should satisfy everyone. 🙂

I completely agree with Gio! It's so nice to see Atrium grow as it has. I love the themes and colors as well. I love the overall aspect of Atrium as well. It seems like a very relaxed community, without even registering!

One thing that bugs me though is how large the top of your index is. As you can see below, this is a huge chunk of forum to scroll through before you get to the actual index. I know that half of this disappears when you register, but it's still sizable.

Cosmic: Actually we put that up on the 20th of december, maybe your cookies from your browser saved an older skin, I'm not sure why.. but we had this seasonal theme defaulted. We will most likely keep it for most of winter since it fits so well. 🙂

Thanks Sir Gio!

Twisted Fairytale: Thanks! Yeah, we will look into that and try to condense some aspects, the zetaboards registration message has always been like that and we'll see if we can work around that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Above all, 70k+ posts in such less time is unbelievable, I've seen sites where it takes them years to reach even 20k and the fact the milestones you have achieved is more than just outstanding. I love the fact you give users an option for different style, that's a thumbs up :great:

I have to say Atrium is currently one of the best if not best forums online at the moment and the way it's going it's just the start. What a site, good luck 😉

As I stated in a previous post, I don't like the winter theme being defaulted for guests this time of the year. So, Instead I'll give you feedback on your main default theme, Atrium Frozen.

As Twisted Fairytale mentioned in an earlier post, guests have to do a lot of scrolling to do very much on the forum. I recommend removing the first of the two boxes at the top and having only the guest box for guests only. For non-guests, you can only show the first box. I recommend you move the "Register Today" redirect forum to the bottom instead of the top of the forum index.

Overall, the design is good, but it feels a little bit lukewarm in my opinion. None of the colors are particularly outspoken. Instead, they are overall pale, and don't stand out too much. This is good for the eyes in some ways, but it also makes the forum feel a bit dull, and makes text a bit less readable. Some aspects of the theme, also, feel a little bit sloppy. For example, the gradients over forum names on the index are overstated, so therefore look a bit unprofessional. Also, the lowercase letters at the very top feel unprofessional. Overall, this theme is better than most, but it still has many issues.

There is nothing bad I can say about your statistics. Good job! I do recommend that you work on adding posts to, or removing, some of the sections with fewer posts, though, just to make it clear to guests how active your forum is.

Site Structure
[note]========== BEGIN - Site Structure ==========[/note]
The forums in the first category seem a bit confusing. There are too many & symbols for my taste. Sometimes you have to use them, but with too many in a row, a viewer can get confused pretty easily.

The forum name "Literature & Books" also feels unnecessary. Literature are books, and after enough time passes, books become literature. I don't see why you have to include an ampersand there. Perhaps call it something like "Book Club" or "The Bookshelf?" I'm sure you can come up with something more original than either of those, but that's the general idea I'm suggesting.

Some of your forum names are fairly ambiguous, and users have to read the descriptions to figure out what they are. I recommend making the descriptions simpler and shorter to make this easier.

Otherwise, your structure is very focused and well designed!
[note]========== END - Site Structure ==========[/note]

Final Remarks
Your have a very good website here. I recommend you work on improving the design. All other areas of the forum are pretty good, aside from a few other, minor suggestions.

Re: Atrium | Standard Review & Feedback

I like the current default "theme" that you're using. That orange really stands out against the dark blue. I know that some people don't like dark themes but I'm happy with either one. Just as long as I can read things easy enough. It is good that you offer different themes, some light and some dark and some in between, to appease a lot of people regardless of which one they prefer.

How you have the forum laid out and organized is pretty simple. That is one of my biggest pet peeves, if not the biggest, when it comes to a forum. I can't stand not being able to find things on a forum. This will makes be frustrated and angry to the point that I'll leave and never come back. I know a lot of people will do the same thing. So keep up the good work and keep it simple.

To start off the review, I have to commend Atrium on their amazing assortment of themes that they have to offer. Many forums go down the road of getting a custom theme which is great, but then they either only stick to that or they get another theme, but they stick to the same design aspects of it being light or dark. While it might not sound like a huge issue, it's honestly good to try to cater to both sides of the coin with around 2-3 different themes. In Atrium's case, you guys present quite a few themes that look good and are mixed in the types of colors some of them have. One theme in particular I had to comment on was your newest custom theme, Atrium Infinite. All I can say is that it is beautiful, and I just love the header with the shades of purple that also shows up in the logo. And the best thing about this dark theme is that while it is considered a dark theme, it doesn't give off the vibe of those ghastly overpowering dark themes you may see on gaming forums and such.

One thing I did notice though is that for the Members Online Today, is that all the themes are showing a default Zeta Original image rather than new ones for each theme, though this is a relatively easy fix. 🙂

This is the part of Atrium that has honestly blown me away, and I've heard it from others as well regarding your statistics. In nearly nine months, Atrium has amassed nearly 136,000 posts! That is truly something impressive and you should really be proud of that. I'm sure you've heard the stereotype against ZetaBoards forums about how there is honestly no way for them to prosper and they end up being nothing. It's safe to say you've easily shattered that stereotype and have cemented Atrium in one of the legend ZB forums.

One thing I noticed though is that The Social Lounge has the most posts out of any other section on the forum. And while it's not a terrible issue, I think it would be good to push to have great amounts of activity happening in all your "on topic" forums. World News & Debates should be a fairly easy forum to stimulate, especially with the Crisis in Greece/Europe, the legalization of gay marriage, you can easily stem tons of topics from these two major stories alone.

Spelling & Professionalism
[note]========== BEGIN - Spelling & Professionalism ==========[/note]
After going through the various forum and aspects of Atrium, I'm pretty happy to say that I found no spelling errors that I jumped out. Forum descriptions are easily one of the biggest places to where they can slip through, and since the descriptions are on display for everyone to see, it normally does not make a pretty picture. Thankfully though again, you do not have that problem.

I mainly wanted to comment on your Staff. Your Staff is extremely active in posting, and that is especially crucial on general discussion forums. For some reason, these forums always tend to stall out and the Staff has to think outside of the box to get another wave of content posted and try to reinvigorate the members.

One thing that I wanted to bring up though was in regards to the other Admin have their post count being registered as -744. I'm not sure if it was a joke, but I was shocked at first when I didn't see their name as one of the Top 10 Posters. I would normally tend to avoid jokes like this or at least avoid these jokes being long term as to not confuse members.

On the professional side of the review, the Administration and Staff are having no issues conversing with the community and keeping them updated. This is a key factor that is constantly overlooked and is dismissed and not being a major necessity since the Admins tend to make the judgement call. So with that, hats off to getting the community involved. 🙂

Final Remarks
I'm honestly not surprised to see how this review went. I say that because everywhere I looked, Atrium honestly had everything in the right place, and it's evident in the statistics of members and content being posted. With that being said though, you're in a crucial stage to where big forums tend to get a bit top heavy and don't realize that not treading carefully can easily be disastrous. Continue to engage the community in the decision you're making to continuously entice them, and Atrium will have no trouble at all being open well into the next few years. 🙂

I love your logo and header. It is a really nice design and the colours are great too. I love the look of the forum appearance and theme as well, did you design it yourself because its a great job. The amount of forums is good too and the forum activity is amazing especially for the number of members you have. Good luck with the forum 🙂

The default theme was designed by Sarah, and a staff member of ours coded it. 🙂 another staff member designed the Atrium logo for us, and thank you very much!

First Impressions
[note]========== BEGIN - First Impressions ==========[/note]
I have always loved this community, and for some reason, I cannot put my finger on it as to why. However, this new theme you have just made it so much better. Here's the thing, I dislike dark themes. However, the way you have everything laid out and how the colors just complement each-other, I am loving what I am seeing. The first thing I notice is the background of the header along with the very professional looking logo, very well done! Something I novice is just how professional and clean cut the logo is, which is probably the biggest thing webmasters overlook. However, you have done it very right here and it is very nice to see. Another thing that was quick to be noticed was the loading speed of the pages when I was clicking around before starting the review, holy no load time. This is another huge factor for a website, especially a forum, is the loading time as people don't want to wait to see the content. They say you have about 2-3 seconds before people navigate away, but this is something you don't have to fear. Something that I did notice was the fact that there are forums that I can see that I cannot access as a guest. Now, I completely understand why you have done this, however, if you are going to hide the content you might as well remove the entire forum from view as well. The same can be said about the "shop" link in the navigation bar. This is something that is really small in comparison to the rest of your forum, however, it's something to think about. Other than that, I don't have much more to say about my first impressions other than so far, I am very excited to dig further down and get into the nitty gritty of things! Let's go!

Like I touched on in the above section, I find that the theme you are using is just, stunning. I can tell you right now that this section is going to be fairly short just because I don't have a lot to touch on. Like the logo and the header, everything else just falls into place when it comes to this theme. The colors themselves make the entire theme, which is something that I really don't see a lot on dark themes. I love the fact that you have small hints of the colors that aren't blinding when contrasted to the dark background. The colors under the "cat-heads" and the forum icons is what I am talking about. I love how they glow as it offers a small hint of color without going all out in neon colors. In doing this, you are making a theme that someone could look at all day without their eyes hurting. A lot of what I like are the small touches that you added, things such as the image to the right of each "cat-head". The hover-over effects you added are a really nice small touch as well. I hate to say it, but there really isn't much more to say about this section other than maybe changing the border color of your theme chooser so it doesn't just look like a like, because I overlooked it when I was looking for it. Something that I did notice, however, was where your "Donate" button is located. To me, it looks very out of place and it's taking up too much space in relation to its overall size. Maybe put the link down in the "footer_right" section of the footer and change the color so it stands out? I mean, if you are getting donations at a steady rate, then by all means leave it as-is. Things like this is just being nit-picky when it comes to the design and doesn't reflect any negativity I have for this theme. I am sorry I don't have much more to say about this section, but I think in a way, it's a good thing. What you have here, well for your default theme anyways, is a very sharp looking theme that has qualities that I wish more forums had.

This is something that I was very impressed with when I first loaded Atrium. When I was looking around before I started, I noticed content just about everywhere. This is another thing that I wish more forums did. They would have 2-3 times the content in one forum than another section. To me, this is just a horrible thing to do because then you have a lopsided community with some forums just collecting dust. However, that's not the case with Atrium, and, again, that's something I love to see. Now, I love numbers and Excel, so I put a few things together.

  • Total Public Posts - 139, 294
  • 24,778 are hidden, making 85% of your total posts public, which is good!
  • You have 4,000 topics and 135,294 posts. Not too bad, but it just shows that you have a little over 34 posts for every new topic. Again, not too bad, but making more topics wouldn't hurt and it would make your stats even more better!
  • You have 6 staff members that share 21,157 of the public posts, whoa! That's a little over 15% of the total posts! Again, that isn't too shabby for how long you've been open!
  • The next part is something that is good to see, 378 new posts today! Very nice! Keep it up!

Now, I do know that stats aren't everything, however, they are still something that you will want to keep in mind. Knowing where you stand activity wise is always something to be good at. Doing so can help gauge where your community is and were it could potentially be. If you see your stats start to fall, you know that there are things to look at that might bring the members back posting! Again, don't think just stats, stats and more stats, but don't let them get out of sight, out of mind either.

Would you look at that, a little over half way done and I my fingers still work, we're doing something right! Alright, this section has always been the death of me, but for a good reason. Let's be honest, there are a lot of forums out there that share the same niche. However, it's what you do within that cliche that makes you stand out. Am I saying that Atrium is the only general discussion forum out there? Well of course not. However, it does have a very tight knit user base that, at least to me, looks very family like. Having that type of user-base is something that will always bring your members back wanting more! When your members get comfortable with one another, they will always want to see what else is new with each-other. It's things like that which will make Atrium grow to new heights, so keep it up! Every time I look your community, I get a sense of belonging and that the community is very open. It's that that feeling that will make a guest wanting more, thus making them signing up. You have very nice discussions going on and I don't see them stopping any time soon, which is something nice to see, drive! Again, not too much to say more about this section other than keep doing what you're doing because what you are doing is very right.

Again, very nice win here. Something very nice to see is an index that is compressed, yet not too short. It is nice that you have a few forums, however, you don't have so many that it makes me scroll and scroll just to reach the bottom. It's nice to do this because it makes your community look more active than it already is because you don't have a bunch of inactive forums showing! With the navigation and overall usage of the forum, I found it very easy to find my way around all of the pages. One thing that I found when clicking on the links that I missed earlier, what is the box that is under the ad on the staff list? It looks like an empty container that might have been used for another ad? Not too large of a problem, it's just something that I noticed. Other than the links and forums that give me an error because I am a guest, everything looks golden when it comes to a layout standpoint. Other than that, I really don't have anything else to comment on because everything is where it should be. Really nice job!

Again, I really do not have much to say here either. I really feel bad to a degree because I feel that I don't have much to say on some of the portions of this review. However, I was very impressed with how everything looks and how your members and staff members post. I get a very professional vibe from your community which is a very good thing. I can tell you put a lot of time into everything and it's the attention to detail that makes a community what it really is. Everything that I looked at was pretty close to perfect when it comes to how posts should look. There is a very thin line when it comes to keeping a professional poise and being laid back, and you have it perfectly here.
