A YOUNG Australian web designer has become the first person to create a virus for Apple's wildly popular iPhone.
The worm, known as Ikee, changes the device's wallpaper to a picture of '80s singer Rick Astley with the words: "Ikee is never gonna give you up" - a reference to Astley's biggest chart hit - before trying to spread to other devices.

Several Australian users were affected, according to internet security company Sophos. It has not spread beyond Australia.

Ikee can infect only iPhones that have been unlocked or "jailbroken" - a practice that gives users the freedom to access the device remotely, share files and use with any SIM card.

IPhones purchased through regular channels on a plan with an authorised SIM are not at risk.

The virus is not destructive and does not compromise any data contained on the iPhone.

Ikee is the work of 21-year-old Sydney web designer and hobby programmer Ashley Towns, who revealed himself as the worm's author on Twitter under the name Ikeeex.

Towns said he created the Ikee virus to create awareness about having a secure password to protect your personal information.

"It's so simple to just change your password - it takes about 10 seconds maybe even less - and would protect all of your phone's personal data, SMSes, emails, address book, everything," he said.

Well, at least he'll never give you up. 😛 Still, it just goes to show that nothing is ever safe and you should always do your best to keep your information secure.

Why do people even bother with viruses. They're just so damn irritating. Someone find those hackers girlfriends so they have something else to do!

I actually find this very clever for someone to make a virus like that. If I could make one, I would.. just for fun 😛. I would use a Toxic logo and the text would be " Haha toxic owns ya ! "

I'm guesing he did this to Rick Rolled a bunch of people. lol

This isn't really a bad virus. It is not like it messes up your iPhone or steals stuff. It is more of a thing to make people think and open their eyes a bit more when it comes to security.

I gotta admit, if this happened to me, I'd just laugh and sing alone. I like the rick roll song. 😎

How funny 😛 It reminds me of one of those old-school viruses where they just pulled off humourous things and not cause any damage, unlike the ones we get today of course.

Exactly.

This virus was just a wakeup call for people to change their passwords or else worse viruses could be created.
