Does anyone here have it? What's your personal thought about it, and the controversial or excellent therapies we have today (example, many believe that vaccines cause autism because of the mercury).
Speaking from someone who has it, I believe that we are on the right path with certain therapies. If a high-functioning autistic were to go into one of the therapy programs, I have seen many show improvement, including myself: I can remember better and do math better after taking one myself. We should fund research more, I believe though. I don't think many of the prescriptions often prescribed for autistic people work though and just cause side effects - I'm trying to get off them myself, but my doctor doesn't agree. All it's done is made me gain weight and not work other than that.
I don't believe that this "vaccines cause autism" debate is true. Sure, they have mercury, which can cause things in your brain, but at least it's not as bad as lead - something proven to give people cancer if they experience lead poisoning. An example I can think of is that I had a vaccine when I was really young and had a seizure from it, which, while it was caused by the vaccine, I didn't have that immediate reaction. I think we should still give vaccines because you don't want to risk your kid getting sick or dying, don't you?
