Can you suggest any ideas for the names of automatic ranks that change depending on post count, much like they do here? This is all I have so far.

0: Ghost
5: Beginner
10: Guest
20: Visitor
50: Member
75: Regular
100: Commoner
150: Apprentice
200: Active

On this one site I used to be admin at, we had the rank images from like a long time ago so we put them back up and we had ranks up to 4000 posts with it. Pretty epic stuff man.

So yeah. I have UW's going militarily from Private to General of the Armies.

I think guest and beginner should be switched around, personally. Ten posts that enable you as a guest doesn't leave a good impression in my book. I can see 5 posts being considered a guest, but not 10. 10 would be better off for the beginner.

Ahh just noticed this is brainstorming and not the main area *headdesk*

Anyway, make it:
0: Guest.
5: Ghost.
10: Visitor.
15: New Member.
And on from there. Just break the 5s chain into 10s from 20-50, and later to 25s and 50s.

They're a little generic. Maybe spiffy them up a bit?

Beginner -> Apprentice (though you have apprentice later on...)
Etc...

Thesaurus can be your friend.

Also, I'm not sure about other people, but I personally don't like 'degrading' titles early on in a forum. I dislike being called 'newbie,' 'guest,' 'ghost,' etc, so I would suggest not having anything like that. Also, don't have one called 'member,' because really, they're all members.

Yeah, that's why my current ones are military ranks, hah. Nah I just have them as military ranks for the UW part.

Anyway, Fanta's right on this, IMO. You should try to be creative and not make them sound bad for lower members - However, regarding the second part, it is a two-sided sword - If you make them sound lower than other ranks you may see some members post more in able to get rid of said rank. I had this friend awhile back who did that, hah. However, it could, on the other hand, make members think you don't view them highly and leave. Kind of a tough decision. However, I see the former occur more often.

I've decided to omit any negative rankings from now on.

Can anyone give me specific rank names, along with their respective post counts?

I think it might be good to update the first post's list as we go along. I have an idea - You could theme your titles after your forum like UW does. Like...with your Sonic forum, you could give some sort of Sonic-related ranks.
