Are awards a good idea for a gaming forum?

Like M16X2 said, it depends. And it depends on what they have to do for the award. If you're giving out custom user ranks - probably not. If you're giving out free Xbox360 games then you can bet your members are going to love it.

You've just got to find what your members really want, and give it to em!

Yeah. You should try to find the best "awards" that best fit your members needs. Usually cash is like the default/universal award in any type of community.

They can be good if implemented right. IF you do implement it, make it interesting.

Example:

Someone gets 100 posts. SOmething like the X-Box achievement pops up and they get so much Gamerscore. That's just an example.

Exactly. No matter how good our suggestions may seem - if your members don't like it, they wont buy it.

Not that kind of awards. Kinda like medals for reaching the 100 post mark.

Well I'm not sure if that counts as a "reward" But maybe give them a medal and a new rank?
