Back up Files

If you use a free forum host, you can't. If you run your own forum through cPanel, you can. To backup your FILES, click 'Backups' (under FILES heading), then click HOME DIRECTORY. This should download a backup of the home directory. To backup your SQL DATABASE, do the same, but click the database name you want to backup.

If this BACKUP function doesn't exist (which it should), then go to phpMyAdmin (under DATABASES heading), then choose your database. Click EXPORT, make sure all of your files are selected and the SQL box is ticked. Then click GO.

If you need to upload a backup, go to phpMyAdmin, choose your database, click IMPORT, choose your backup and select GO.

I don't think I explained that very well, so if you need anything clarified, feel free to ask. If you use FreeForums, Forumer etc, you can't do this.

Or if you are using a software such as phpBB, vBulletin or IPB you can backup your files through their AdminCP.

Best way to backup files is in FTP. Open an FTP client and drag your forum's folder to the desktop. cPanel backups use a lot more space (I have ~400MB of files and a backup was over 1GB in cPanel).
