Backlinks....

Have a scroll through DigitalPoint, you'll see loads of signatures which give you .edu lists 🙂

Blogs, forums, and link directories.

Sometimes getting an approved blog posts will get you a backlink from each of their pages. I got over 200 backlinks from one blog for one approved comment.

.edu websites are the perfect place to set your backlinks.
Well, the only problem is acquiring a link on such a website. You would probably need to be a part of that educational institution otherwise a .edu link is rare.

You shouldn't focus on having certain extensions for any of your backlinks. That will be the first red flag that Google sees if you have a majority of .edu links. Just focus on getting a good balance of nofollow and dofollow links naturally, and you won't have a problem.

Commenting on .edu blogs is a good way to obtain .edu backlinks, Look for the ones that are not spammed to death though and for god sake do not spam them yourself.

Link directorys are almost useless, The half decent ones are all spammed to death too with like 9000 outbound links.

Try to look for more exclusive backlinks.

DP (digitalpoints) is now a no follow forum...
Both in-post and signature links are now NOFOLLOW, except the signature links of premium members. So they are pretty much worthless now unless you are premium.

My only caution is be careful not to buy to many, Google can tell if you are padding your links and traffic. I watched a PR5 drop to a PR1 for padding.

Joel is correct, buy them but do so from a good service and not by the 100s.....

Even if links are nofollow, there is still some juice passed on - don't overlook them because of this tag.

I'm on postloop, and I join the forums on there list, add a signature, and build backlinks that way. I'm also a member of a few large game dev forums for backlink building that are more specific to my niche.
