Have you ever had one of these? Whether it be a forum you've been a member of, or you own? I was a member of a forum for 3 years, and the members their would constantly attack me whenever I made a post, and would hop on a bandwagon just to insult me, they never liked me there and even the Staff members would insult me on a daily-basis whether it be behind my back or right to me, the Admins even liked doing it to the point where they made fun of a picture of me. I don't know why I continually posted there, but I used to go on it all the time and I just stuck with my reputation as being the Forum Punching Bag. Needless to say, it brought the aggresive side out of me, I spoke my mind and I gave them a taste of their own medicine. :shake:

Have you ever had a bad run on a forum?

Eh, I've been screwed out of a mod position before because a staff member held a grudge against me and threatened to leave. I've also felt like a forum I go too has recently slapped me in the face multiple times regarding some stuff but I still post there..

Aside from that, I've had an enjoyable forum experience

And the Staff at the forum started fights and arguments with members from time to time but only because they liked to abuse their powers on members. Everyone their was immature and unproffesional but their loss, I guess..

I was once hired by a friend of mine, as moderator in his promotion Forum. But other staff there (like reviewers, packagers, etc) doesn't like that, and argued with the admin that, he should upgrade one of them as mod, and should not hire a new one.
The admin was helpless, because he can neither downgrade me, nor convince them. I finally decided to step down from that position.

Umm, those packagers and reviewers should have sucked it up. They applied for those positions, not mods.

I see so much fail in which words are being used. 😀

The first forum I had made, I was following a trend to get people on a game website to go to a new place, where the threads you made didn't get replaced by newer threads, due to a limit on thread numbers allowed. Well, once I opened it, I had a flood of a dozen people or so that were causing trouble for me trying to have a welcoming forum. I eventually decided to close down that forum because of other complications later on.

I always try and avoid any confrontation, but it can't always be helped. I've had the same experience as some of you have posted. I was given a position which a few other members didn't like and convinced the admin to let me go. Needless to say, I didn't mind being fired, if the admin can't stand up for themselves, I'd rather not work there.

Ya I have had that happen 2 times. And it's just not fun it ruins all of the fun. If members and staff members could just learn to be nicer it would be a lot more fun... I wasn't ever the owner so when the staff were being me to me and other staff members there was nothing I could really do unless I wanted to lose my spot. But in the end when that happened they lost their forum.. It either stopped with a lack of activity or someone hacked it.

Dr. Gordon, did that happen on the prestigious web magazine RPGCodex?

I once joined a forum that didn't have clear rules for signatures, so my signature got blocked, and after that I just left. I did read the rules when I joined too.

There was another time where I joined a forum based on helping other webmasters out, and the few people running the site got all mad when I posted my opinions in the "What site pet peeves do you have" thread, even though I didn't agree with all the things they said. They banned me for "acting like a snob". Fools.

I had a not so good experience with the new owner of a forum that I really liked, he basically stopped caring about it. I got into many heated discussions with him. :shake:

I've had my share, specially when i started as a forum member in different Zelda communities.

I had this one where a guy made a thread asking for the staff attention, I ignored it because it was not my business, then I noticed his rank said "banned", since I couldn't hold my curiosity I went to check his latest replies through his profile... there I realise two things:
1. His "banned" was just just custom rank (free to type whatever you like)
2. The thread for the staff was to convince them of how much of a spammer I was and how i should get expelled because of it. The guy had screenshot of the latest replies in new members (including my own thread). He also went on about my avatar (it was a drawing I made) and well... bait I bit, as I replied his post and invited it to proceed in PM instead, where he asked me to stop using "^_^" and changed my avatar since it was ugly (riiiiiiight, all the while he had a middle-finger-up one). I didn't know of trolls. I also had problems with my age, I posted so often and (probably with more typos than nowadays) that they were sure I was younger than what I claimed and treated me as such.

In another community everything was great and made close friends, but then some drama came in a row and members took sides between the admin and the moderator and one day the forum has been deleted.

I guess those are mostly what pains me in forums, communities that i get attached to, last over a few years and then vanishes without trace...

I've been screwed out of positions that I had deserved but I try not to get annoyed with it. I'm just a spoke on the wheel, I understand that, the wheel has to keep turning, but I don't want to be a spoke for a wheel that I don't feel wanted or needed.

Worst experience I had was on the first major forum I ran a couple years ago. Things had been going great for a while, and then, for about a one-month period, we started getting attacked by 4chan hackers, who constantly posted disturbing pornographic images on the site, which wound up setting my McAfee security on high alert and started blocking half the site for me, so I couldn't even do a thing about it.

Needless to say, that kind of killed things there and we lost some good members to that attack.

Oh, I would also like to note that the forum is a haven for drama because members their like to stir up drama from other forums and bring on their back and forth. It's also chalk-full of spam so all I really have to say is negative things about it.

Why would 4chan hackers randomly attack you, there must have been something done to even get your name thrown out in that place?

I honestly haven't the slightest idea. We probably banned someone who was a regular on 4chan and he was miffed about it or something. Either way, not sure why it happened, but it did.
