Don't you just hate it, when a forum has bad grammar or spelling?

Like, if a forum admin doesn't put enough time into correcting spelling or grammar mistakes..
Or even a memberbase that has some users who probably failed English class.(I don't mind, if the user is foreign and doesn't know English well, but something has got to give..) or just use bad grammar/spelling on the internet.

How about users prone to typing like "That Is A Rather Pointless Post"(over-capitalization) or "I can't say much on the matter, but i sorta agree. what about you?"(very little capitalization).

Call me a grammar Nazi or even slightly cynical, but I don't like seeing bad grammar/spelling in general.

Yes, I absolutely hate it. Every time I see it I wish I could go in and fix it all. It looks hideous!

I'm just like you I don't like seeing bad grammar/spelling in general... I'm not sure what's going on with their brains when they type/write things.

Yes, I agree with both of you, I hate it. I don't mind the odd post, but some forums are just full of grammar/spelling mistakes and it really gets on my nerves.

I don't usually edit their posts. I'm talking about like descriptions on forums. I visit a ton of forums where the admin makes a TON of grammatical mistakes on their forum.

Tell me more about it!!

It annoys me. Its even more annoying when its the owner of the forum and there board descriptions are all messed up.

While you might have the right to complain about grammar, I am pretty sure you do not know what cynical means, you could most definitely be grumpy about it but grammar and cynicism have little in common 😉.

My spelling is not the best that's why I use spell check before posting on my forum more so when writing poems ect

Ahah. I wish forum owners would think like you Fiona. At least run it through a spell checker. I wouldn't recommend just typing up the post and seeing if your browser will recognize errors because it misses quite a lot. I'd recommend pasting it in a software (in your browser) that will point out the mistakes for you. 🙂

I am a forum owner and i suffer badly from dyslexia so does that say i should not run a forum as my spelling is really bad.I feel every one has the right to own and run a forum have you ever thought that these people may have problem's and need good staff or members to point it out in a constructive manner.Look at my forum and i am sure you will find poor grammar i do try my hardest but some times i fail

Not necessarily, although there is something to be said about people choosing their strong points. If someone is tone deaf they can still certainly sing, but it'll certainly be a challenge unless you're going for the outsider niche like Florence Foster Jenkins.

I'm glad someone brought up dyslexia, you have to make allowances for that, also for people whose native tongue is not English, some people simply spell poorly, others use text slang, I would never embarrass a member by correcting their mistakes unless they inadvertently used a swearword in which case I would contact them privately and sensitively.

I think the content of the post is far more important than how it is written, I do my best to make sure my own postings are good but not a one of us is perfect.

i valyoo grammer and spellin a hole lawt n i nevar mayke mistaykez in my ritin.

Seriously, though, I think people are a bit too strict about grammar sometimes (and this is coming from the biggest grammar nerd you'll ever meet). Improper grammar sometimes bugs me a little bit, but I never point out mistakes except in two cases. Case one is when a person asks how to do something or if he/she is doing something correctly. The second case is when someone posts JUST to correct the grammar of someone else and makes grammar mistakes in his/her own post. I find it especially amusing when someone comments on the "grammer [sic]" of another person.

Not everyone speaks and/or writes English as a first language, and different people have different strengths and abilities. As long as you can read it, then it's not a big deal.

I do like to see at least semi-proper grammar (capital letters at the beginning of sentences) on forum descriptions and the like, though.

My native language is not English, so in building and running forums I can understand spelling and grammar mistakes from administrators or members. When it comes to forum descriptions, I'm slightly more strict, but in forums generally I'm more laid back. Still, when a member doesn't use space or capital letters or sentence marks properly, it is easy to get confused and harder for me to understand sometimes so I kind of dislike it and hope that it can be improved.

I don't point out their mistakes just like that, though. In fact I never talked with members about improper spelling or grammar; I feel I would have been stepping way too far if I ever do that.

I find if annoying if the user has authority as they are setting the example of how to be professional and up to par.

I usually do point out spelling mistakes so people learn and don't live their lives spelling words wrong and don't mind if others do it to me.

I agree and more over, it's the context that matters to me and not the content or their use of grammar in general.
The only issue I have with grammar in forums is that it makes it more difficult to determine what the persons actual tone is. This comes back on me a lot of the times because yes, I'm a bit of a smart a--, but at the same time, when I'm trying to relay properly what I mean to a person it makes it a bit difficult if the other person doesn't quite understand what I'm saying or even talking about.
In short, yes, I think it's important but not to the point of letting it control my emotions over how a person is being portrayed by typos.

If it's bad grammar and spelling by the admin, I probably wouldn't even stay on the site. But I can understand bad grammar and spelling from some of the normal posters, but I still annoys the heck out of me.

As long as it is readable and doesn't take effort to read, I couldn't care less. I won't make mistakes on writing on forums. I won't join a forum with bad grammar. If a user of mine constantly has bad grammar/spelling, I'll warn him and then ban him typically. I try and keep quality. But it needs to be bad enough like they can't type or something. The warning normally says "I can't tell if you don't care or if you have a problem typing English, but I need a reason why."

When an owner or staff member doesn't make an effort to make correct posts - with correct grammar or spelling, its a major turn off.

-- 28 May 2012, 06:56 --
