Is it not a good idea to change forum software as well as your forums theme when you are already launched with members and posts?

My forum has been on 4 different software's over the years and it does alright. It's probably a bad idea to impose big changes on your community too often though, space 'em out.

Hmm okay, I was only wondering because I recently got a Xenforo license that I am hoping to transfer my new forum to (after lots of testing on a different directory).

I just don't wanna damage any growth/progress thus far.

I only issue if you write custom plugins or software for a particular software it can be a pain to re-write them again.

You might ruffle some feathers, but it'll just be a minor setback in the grand scheme of things (if you plan to stick with this forum for a long time, years, that is).

It's very bad idea, especially when you don't have a good reason to do so.

I think it can be good for a forum to change software. I'd gives an old forum a fresh feel.

It really depends on how invested you are into a specific platform. Themes, plugins, etc. can be a pain to migrate over or to replace.

It really boils down to.. What platform are you on? Do the pros outweigh the cons?

Yeah this is true, I wouldn't just jump into a software of course, I would certainly do my homework on plugins and all of that and make sure that I can migrate all of the existing content over to the new software.
