What is your solution for impulsive over spending habits?

I have one passion/obsession that needs to be kept in check which is buying rare and vintage stringed instruments. My solution for keeping it under control was I learnt how to restore the instruments I bought and sell some of them on for profit. I keep a ledger to ensure I don't spend more than I sell.

Have someone else be in control of finances and the person who overspends gets an allowance to work from. Overspending is immediately solved.
