Bandwidth concern

I have used 400MB of bandwidth in less then a week, i don't get how i can use so much bandwidth for a forum :?

Back on topic, it's either because your forum is very popular, or there's someone hotlinking from your site.

I have done a lot of FTP though, that might be a factor

FTP has very little impact on bandwidth.

Wow. I've heard if you use 10-15% of bandwidth some hosts suspend you.

thats because they are rubbish, and they say; unlimited space and bndwidh, which impossable

I know, they are called oversellers, just like my current host.

Hosts get you in by offering high limits that are impossible to use.

We use 400-500mb a day for FP. Loads of aspects affect bandwidth usage such as GZIP compression (makes a lot of difference although enabling it causes extra load on the server), if you host images on the server for posting on other forums or a sig for other forums and so on, people hotlinking images, style of template as prosilver based styles use a bit more bandwidth then subsilver based ones, traffic on the site, how active search bot are and how big the images are on your site file size wise like the logo as some forums logo that are quite big. Also if you allow alot of attachments to be used that can use a lot of extra bandwidth along with if you allow users to upload avatars.

some hosts are sneaky with their bandwidth. most assume it is just from people visiting the website, but a lot of hosts include EMAIL, FTP, CONTROL PANEL, MYSQL and similar applications in your bandwidth.

If you do you find you are using a lot though you can reduce the size of your pages.

My forum (http://community.spyka.co.uk) gets its way through about 1GB a day at the moment -bigeyes-
