I joined a video game site today and offered a few quality posts. I was planning on posting more and offered a small suggestion that the off-topic section be expanded. The exchange description said "Only post in gaming area". The ban message said "does not understand concept of gaming website" and my username was changed without my permission. I consider it unnecessary for me to suddenly get banned for offering a small suggestion that could benefit the website.

Most of the successful gaming forums that I've been on offer a nicely-sized off-topic secion? It is like the owner expects people to discuss gaming 24/7. What about people who post introductions? If posting a suggestions warrants one then so should introducing yourself. Best activity killer there.

How would you feel if you were banned just for posting once in an off-topic section, even if it is a introduction or site suggestion? Would you turn people away from that site?

Though I do believe that forums can be ran any way that the administrator feels like he should, I always feel and observed that the forums that do the worst, are the ones that do not want to take any suggestions that could help with activity, and will potentially ban anyone that may suggest such an idea.

If that is how they treat their members, I don't really foresee it going anywhere at least not with a very friendly community. Is the forum in question a large forum?

I wouldn't let it worry you and it sounds like a kid runs it. My site is only in beta and we are still offering a nice selection of off-topic sections. Life isn't 100% dedicated to gaming they need to know that.

That doesn't sound like a very good reason for banning at all. 🙁 In fact, I think forums should have a Suggestion Box. My forum does.

After I searched a little, I found that it was a clan forum. But it was an FPS clan of teenagers or something. But they shouldn't advertise their site on Postloop, considering that they can't seem to be open enough to a simple suggestion.

The site was called "Crankers" by the way. The most I can do is take the content I posted on there and put it in my own forum. Regardless, it was a stupid reason for banning me. Without notification at that!

Yeah. They don't sound like a very inviting community though, with the way the banned you and all.

I'm surprised you were banned for making a simple suggestion.

I'm a member of Crankers and never had an issue being there.

I like the community there as they really take the time to respond back about gaming topics, not just one liners either.

Maybe they will reconsider.

If the admin is impolite enough to ban you for no real reason, then you probably are better off not using their forum. 🙂

That's a terrible experience. We have NEVER banned anyone for thinking differently. Only the trolls and spammers are the ones getting the plunge. We're a very open-minded community. Even inflammatory members are given chances.
