Banner Exchanges

For those who like free methods of advertising ones' websites and forums, have you tried banner exchanges?

For those who have tried banner exchanges before, what did you like or dislike about them?

I am currently testing one out, and am in the process of trying to get as many page views as possible, so that I can use the exchange without worrying about not having my banner in the exchange while my site is slow in activity. And I prefer to not have to pay for the views I can purchase from the exchange, considering I believe I can get the same amount of views, without having to pay for it.

I tried TheBannerExchange, Showyoursite and some others.

TheBannerExchange was the first banner exchange I took part in. I 'exchange' for sometimes. I stopped because I found out that the admin is not responding to members problem. I dont know why they deactivated my banner exchange account. I emailed them, and they reactivated my account. However they did not reply to my email.

Few weeks later, same problem. So I looked for other banner exchange sites. I found out about showyoursites. The website is good but just the loading time for banner exchange is too slow.

I displayed a few banners on my website but I only received 1-5 banners. Well, it is because that they 'post' our banners on website with the same niche. Which I think it is good.

it's very tough. because both banners should match same category
